Interesting - I understand rent control works but only in small scale and limited areas. The reason is supply and demand model.
Landlords if the rent is too low, will not rent their unit at all. This will increase the demand for the rent controlled units, still producing a shortage of affordable housing.
The federal government programs rapid rehousing, Section 8, permanent supportive housing, Tenant based rental assistance, all require the person to be "eligible" usually homeless and must be a resident or citizen of the United States. There is still public housing, but the move is away from "projects" and ghettoization of housing.
Still a lot of strategies are used since the local and federal government in America realize that a plan must be developed and implemented, and that no one size fits all program will work. What is good in a large urban northern city might not work for a rural midwest farming area.

I for one have been in a relationship (marriage) that turned violent, but I have also had wonderful relationships with kind, strong, smart, caring, humorous men.
It's never wise for politicians to introduce bills that specifically direct teachers in the classroom. They should be setting policies that allow flexibility in our modern time. Finland has the best system in the world according to the world education ranking.... so lets find out what kind of things they do.
I think education should be on a pass fail system and the success of the school is in how many students immediately get a job and become successful or productive in that job.
If someone is going through a divorce and this is thrown in a man's face, I can see the need to "prove" your innocence - because of false testimony or motivation.
It is different to think we paint all who are verbally accused with the same paintbrush.

prosperous business who employ and pay a fair equitable wage with sick leave and family leave and government provided free college education and affordable health care coverage, and uncorrupted banks and institutions, infrastructure to get our goods from coast to coast.....
Generalized questions like "Is it ever ok to tell a white lie or stretch the truth" confuse me.
I don't like to operate in generalizations and I don't like to make a decision on another person's morality. Because really isn't it a matter of "is it every ok to do it - when one doesn't get caught, or hurt someone......
some people lie and don't feel ok about it, and some people lie without a moral worry in the world.
:very mad: in America there are SOOOOOOO many charities and non-profit organizations that give a friggin' less than 10% of their fund raising efforts to the cause. The rest of that money goes to administration costs and to the marketing folk that put out the ads.
included are those efforts are ones that are purported to support veterans, cancer research, feed the poor.....
I say donator BEWARE, research your organizations FIRST! check out the charities watchdog websites.
Better yet, thing about giving your time rather than your spare change - don't go willy nilly thinking that money can solve every social issue. Look at your local community organizations -
some things that effect (or is it affect) poverty and homelessness
government stability (coups, revolutions, civil war)
access to resources, (water, food crops)
free education with access for all diverse types
fiscal policies that fit the community to help families
Family friendly workplaces and flexible work schedules to coincide with school schedules so that families can be productive in work and still work together as a family.
