don't forget to add the news entertainment outlets into the mix of inciting the riot as cnn and others repeated his words over and over again in a media blitz and frenzy


Did you also see the looters and rioters on tv with masks over their face like they had a right to hid their identity and a shameful display of thugary - but if the news outlets had decided to to make it a sensation way to sell their business and get more businesses to buy their ads because everyone was watching.

you, and we don't know that because the Grand Jury is the only ones to hear all of the evidence.... and they decided not to bring charges.....

I find is rather interesting that our trend now is to try people in the court of public opinion - gone are the times when people allowed the legal authorities to investigate, including watchdogs against public corruption officials and police forces, and listened to those that investigated.

Now we have a hyperactive news entertainment business that has risen up to slant the information into such a form and format as to get people to judge situations in which they have not got all the information and often the facts are completely incorrect.

I just wonder how much this is going to cost the State and the town of Ferguson to clean up?

When the Rodney King riots in LA cost the community a bucketload of money to repair, and make whole the destruction to the businesses, cars and homes in the community.

When the McDuffy riots in Miami costs an entire community to dip well below the poverty line and they still have not gotten the community back into middle class American status.

The United States Supreme Court has enumerated the policies underlying grand jury secrecy:
1. The fear that witnesses will not come forward voluntarily if their identity is not protected;
2. The fear that witnesses will be less likely to give full and frank testimony if their identity is known so that they become subject to retribution or inducements;
3. The risk that the indicted will flee if indictments are made public prior to arrest;
4. The danger that a potential defendant might influence the votes of grand jurors; and
5. The protection of the reputation of an individual who is accused but not indicted by the grand jury.

Traditionally, grand juries served as a shield between unjust prosecution by the state and the individual. Grand juries serve dual functions. The grand jury's primary role is to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to justify indicting an accused individual. 1 To make such determinations, a grand jury also serves as an investigating body with subpoena powers. 2 In Florida, a grand jury indictment is required only to try a person for a capital offense; i.e., one where the death penalty may be given. 3 Otherwise, the state attorney has concurrent authority to file a formal accusation of the commission of a crime (an "information"). 4 The information is used routinely to charge individuals in Florida. In addition to capital cases, grand juries often are utilized for controversial cases such as those involving alleged wrongdoing by public officials.

I. Florida's Grand Jury Structure.
A grand jury must consist of between 15 and 21 persons. 5 Grand jurors are appointed for one term of court, normally five to six months of intermittent service. 6 The concurrence of 12 grand jurors is necessary to indict an individual. 7 Whether or not an indictment is returned, the grand jury may issue presentments or reports recording their findings. 8 In Florida, grand juries may investigate and report on official misconduct and matters generally concerning the public welfare — even if no criminal activity is suspected.


So if this is how the State of Florida sets it up, I am wondering how many appointed in other states.

Do Grand Juries only have twelve on it? I thought the Grand Jury is set up a little bit different than regular juries?

pull rank? all equal? telling people not to comment on gun violence - you must be mistaking me with some other poster - and I would suggest you find and quote the thread and number - and I certainly have not participated personally in violence in Afghanistan.

My comment "give it a rest, everyone" was my comment about how large media corporations flood the internet and monopoly news outlets with the same story in a way that incites people to riot.

Slow your role, Ccincy, I am happy to post to any thread topic you want. I am just expressing my opinion, too.

I have always been interested in this kind of grand jury verdicts and decisions, Miami has experienced plenty in the 30 years I have lived there. Miami had riots after the mcDuffy verdict, incidents over the campbell lies, I can go on, and on.

but interest in the outcome, and allowing for peaceful demonstrations is certainly different then the media blitz that I personal think borders on inciting a riot with the quantity and quality of coverage and the editorial comments and extra focus .....

If you are from Ferguson or related to the officer or the family of the slain youth, it is none of your business.

All the news media want to do is entertain us with excitement in "news" - so if they can build the hype over this grand jury decision, their media blitz campaign worked.

They are not the first grand jury nor the last, it is not the first time that gun violence ends in a tragedy all the way around for everyone - the family, the police force, the police officer, the town..... no one is left undamaged....

But to build up the hype of this whole decision just creates chaos in peoples hearts and minds and of course that sell news.

Until these big corporation news media start reporting a more balance account of news around America, I find it is just

ambulance chasing news..... or more likely slanting the news to make it sensational and jamming it down our throats....

I love the big dogs! I am thinking perhaps a St. Bernard or another Rottweiler, maybe a great dane.
