I would expect that my partner and I communicate in a way that each others views and feelings are taken into consideration. If your partner is an insensitive bore - well vacations are the best way to find out about it. Either find something in the trip to enjoy or say something to your partner about your feelings, or re-evaluate your relationship!

I never equated mean with a skinflint. I thought someone who was so mean was violent or cruel rather than just uber frugal.
