Pets and dating...

I'm sure I blogged this (maybe on another site) and got mixed reviews. I had a neighbor, nice looking woman but she had dogs... lots of dogs. Some were legit with vaccinations and tags. Many of the others were strays and she didn't have much funding to have them spayed or neutered. The dogs multiplied.

The woman dated as I sometimes would see guys and maybe a car overnight, but it became obvious they didn't want to stay long as her place was overrun with her pets. Not long after animal control going on complaints from neighbors paid her a visit.
Police arrested her, they took control and removed the animals.

Yeah, this is the rare case...

Some profiles show people with their pets. Background, foreground and sometimes, it's the pet and no person. Okay, it's fun to have a pet. But what signal is the person is sending out? Does the pet come first and the (possible) mate come second?

I've dated women with pets. Some had children and a pretty normal life. I've seen some where the dog (for example) had control of the house and everything evolved around the pet. Jumping on the sofa, growling at guests, constant barking... and those are the good points!

Blogs don't ask questions, but I think people are less critical than I am about having pets and it could be a deterrent to finding a mate if your focus is in the wrong direction.

They've actually done studies on having a pet on your profile. One survey revealed that 2/3 of people admitted that they're more likely to match with someone if their dating profile includes a picture of a dog. The benefits of having a dog in a dating profile were allegedly so effective that half of those poles even said they would borrow a family or friends dog for a photo shoot to bolster their dating profile. People also presume dog owners to be more social, active and empathetic.

Of course in your story it can go the other way. Sounds like she was an animal hoarder with horrific conditions if she was arrested.

On another site where I did have a profile picture, I had a dog by my side. I had a few women say that was one of the reasons they were interested. Gee thanks! laugh I think you have to be an animal person to understand this.
First off, thanks for the response.

I'm working from home today and will add some background and stories as a few separate comments.

As along as I can remember, my mother always had a pet, usually a small dog.
Most were fun and an active part of the family. She bought a shit-zoo from a private breeder and my dad said the dog was worthless.

I had a girlfriend in college who had an Irish Setter. Another girlfriend had a German Shepherd. They both grew out of that phase as the maintenance was too high.
Wasn't there a country music song about the guy who wasn't bothered when he lost his job, his truck broke down and his his wife left him?

What bothered him was the day his dawg ran away !!

Back in the 80's and my first house was pre-construction. When we moved in, a stray dog befriended us, maybe because my wife fed her some roast beef. Anyway, she knew who belonged and who didn't. Like the time she tore shreds in the briefcase of an insurance salesman!
Missy wasn't spayed and within a few months we had puppies. They went up for adoption and we found them homes. Some time later Missy decided to move on from our lives.
Not about pets...

I know a lady who is on many dating sites...In her early sixties..

She posts pictures of her cleavage and in a bikini..she is very attractive...

She only dates men with money...gets a few free meals...

But, on about the third date..when they ask her to spend the night...

She says, all they want is sex...

People are crazy...
One of my four rescue dogs was abandoned at a pound by her family. The excuse was that the owner and his partner were working long hours, but I suspect it was because the partner couldn't handle a disgusting habit the little dog had developed. She was otherwise incredibly well trained.

She was utterly traumatised when she came to live with our family, eyes like saucers traumatised, but sometime in the first year she finally felt secure again, disgusting habit abandoned in favour of trying to bully the big dog and thieving child-sized socks for the fun of the chase.

I bet my bottom pound sterling her first owner regrets giving her up to this day.

She was the business. smitten
My son had a cat like that...

He was in and out of 5 homes...and in the animal shelter...

He was obviously abused...but, with time and patience...he became the most loving cat...he would cuddle up with you for hors and just purr...

Unfortunately, he died from cancer a few years ago..My son spent a fortune trying to save him...

He has a picture of him tattooed on his arm...with a Rock Star...emblem...Becasue his name was Rocky the Rock Star...

It is next to the tattoo he has in honor of his father.
I know. I took her to Cheesecake Factory... once!
Next chapter...
My mother passed away and I was going through a divorce so I moved back home to care for my father. Someone gifted me a Chow. She appeared to be pure bred but came with no papers. Within a few weeks, she had a litter of beautiful puppies and when they were old enough, we had them in a pen under the tree in the front yard with an adoption sign.
My dad went to the store and 15-20 minutes later when he returned, all the dogs were gone!
