Speed dating
So I found out about a speed-dating thing about a half hour drive away and for all nationalities, not just Spanish (the organiser is Dutch) and the first had about a dozen pitch up and the second had twenty and the third is coming up. All are 'mature singles' and numbers are kept approximately even.I should go, right? Time and petrol and a small fee ... and the theory is we all know within minutes of meeting someone whether there's a spark or not, that's got to be better than facing a whole date and planning how to escape as quickly and politely as possible.
Has anyone done it, pros and cons?

Making an impression, being irresistible in the 5 minutes before the bell pings, no pressure

I joined an expats club recently and noticed they have a night for solo members, might venture along for that, there could after all be members under 90 years old, although I've yet to see on one under 90 at their backgammon mornings
* a woman
There are single blokes here but some are gay and some are shy and some are rich and afraid of being chased for their money and some are poor and want to see your bank account before they'll commit ... but the point is when you meet someone speed-dating two questions are ticked immediately
Single? yes
Looking? yes
Aha!
Unless you HAVE to live at home you can also tick another box on some lists, 'ready able and willing to move in' some women do like a man around all the time, they feel incomplete without one even if they don't actually NEED one they prefer one, preferably doting, on tap in case.

Trouble is I'm older than you so if I tried that I'd scare them off. Maybe for me the line would be 'do you just want your feet massaged'

However still think that sounds a good way of meeting. Good voice, good conversation, I would so meet up. The downside is that my own voice - well, put it this way, most marketing calls from real human beings assume I am the man of the house, can't see that being a turn-on lol
As for this speed-dating malarkey, there are lots of women interested, not enough men. At this point the next meet is being pencilled in for mid May and she asked if I could rope in any blokes to help that happen. Well, if all the women are being asked to sign up all the men they personally don't want -
To this day I still scratch my head wondering why people need technology to find ways to meet the opposite sex Did you know you can be asked out whilst grocery shopping?
I will never trust technology for meeting up with a man ever
I end up chatting with men when power walking On the bus On the train Grocery shopping The gym
At the club At the tavern Have been asked out at all the places I have mentioned even power walking the streets for exercise Couple of years ago I made a a final decision to stay single I'm happy as is but if I was into dating I wouldn't turn to technology I would stick to the real world & for the life of me I don't know why others don't stick to the real world

In my experience, they aren't there for meeting men.
Mermaidhair, report back if you do!
MiMi, you'd blow them away!
Mercedes, I DID get chatted up, then asked out, in the supermarket the other day! First time ever in a supermarket ... but nope, not my type. Still, a bit of a buzz. To me the only advantage of speed dating is the bloke is prepared to stand up in 'public' and say I'm single and looking. No hiding behind fake photos or no photo so that the wife doesn't find out, no games or evasions, you like the first impression or you don't
Sunshine, I will. Soon as the next meet is set up ...
Emmy, last email she's hoping to have enough blokes for mid May. I will be reporting back if I go, PROMISE
Chat, women who are looking can be chatted up anywhere, any time, but not all women are looking. Which is why going somewhere where everyone IS looking (unlike a singles website, QED) is a handy shortcut?
