Hisssssss

Warning ! The picture below is of a snake.
I know that some people do not like snakes.
So, I'm giving those people the courtesy of a warning.
Personally, I find this type of snake much less offensive
than the types one can find on here blogging about others. laugh

This picture is of a female Northern Brown Banded Water Snake.
It mostly eats fish, worms and frogs and is not venomous.
However, I've read reports that the bite is very painful.
Thanfully, I can not report personal experience with that aspect. grin

The females are much larger than the males. I've often seen
this particular snake cuddled with a male on this same branch
just above the water of Carnegie Lake in Princeton.
What's interesting about this snake is that the babies
are given live birth by the female. Most snakes lay eggs instead.

New Jersey, unlike Florida, does not have a lot of venomous snakes.
Indeed, there are only two; copperhead and timber rattlesnake. I've never seen either in the wild.

This picture is of the top part of her as she is sun bathing, warming herself.
She is about 4 feet long total from heat to tip of tail.

This picture along with 43 others were posted by me in an album elsewhere. Enjoy this one here ! cheers

I have no problems with snakes other than to avoid the venomous ones. When I'm at the river fishing i always see the water snakes and sometimes i catch them, along with any other non venomous snake. For a time i had ball pythons which are pretty cool, but they all belong in nature to help rid the overpopulation of rodents and other pesky critters:)
I understand T.
I've never owned one as a pet.
But, they are just an animal.
There's nothing exceptionally evil
about them as we are led to believe
by some religious teachings.
When some people think of snakes,
they think 'slimy'.
However, snakes are actually very clean animals
and not slimy at all.
Hi Jim,

They are exotics...LOL
yay pretty snake am happy very happy
applause

laugh ha ha ha hey druuuuuuuunk snake becareful laugh
Hisssssssss.. fissssssssss ..fissssssssssss.. hissssssssss
Jim, I know they are not evil
but I just can't stand them.
I remembered vividly when I was around 10,
I cleared the grass behind my parent's yard
(to plant cabbages) and out crawled a snake.
I stood up right away. I felt dizzy and went blank - total darkness, just couldn't see for a few seconds and then
ran back right into the house as though I had
been chased by a ghost....but if I see one in the river,
I don't get scared cos all I see is the head popping out of the water..
Loving goody, and you are my queen of hearts... hug
Really jim have good collections of snakes.laugh snakes are making me inspire to clap my hands due to happiness, but i am fear that the moment i will leave the snakes caught in my hand for clapping and this snake will bite. laughand i cannot distinguish between a rattle snake and northern b.W.snake.laugh

T - I was bit once by a garter snake under a similar situation when I was a child. Last week I photographed 2 garter snakes cuddling together. They're fairly harmless.
I'm afraid of snakes except for the tiny baby ones.

this one doesnt look poisonous, but is it? lol
No Swiss. The one I photographed is a female
Brown Banded Water Snake. She is non-venomous
and mostly eats fish, worms & frogs. peace
oh ok. lol.. im glad it isnt venomous.. gardner snakes are ok and arent venomous, those i recognize because we have many of them in michigan.. they keep mice population down and are good for the environment.
You're right jim snakes aren't slimy but they are warm to touch. This one was kinda soft. I held one & it was a diiferent experience & not scary as expected.
lol mystryr.. thanks for the information, i think austrailia is one country i wont be visiting for a vacation.. lol..
jeesch that little spider is very dangerous. im glad none are in here in michigan.
Thanks jim for providing informations regarding various topics. And that is why this blogging section looks living due to few good bloggers like u.tip hatgood night everyone. sleep
D - that's kind of you to say so. Thanks. tip hat

Z - No. The reality of snakes is much different than many people's perception. They are an important part of the ecosystem. peace

The biggest problem is when people have them as pets and then
release them into ecosystems where they don't belong.
This is a huge problem in Florida and other areas.
Jim, when I read the title I thought maybe you were having a "hisssssssy fit". Sorry, couldn't resist.
