Bouncer

My mom and dad just put their dog to sleep. He was almost 18 years old, and was having a hard time getting around and he was deaf, and had to be miserable. I didn't figure he would've made the winter. They knew he was suffering, and decided to ease his pain. It hurts because he has been around for over half of my life and was my buddy, but I know it was for the best. I will sure miss seeing him when I go to their house. I will never forget him and what he meant to me.

At least he had a long life. Just think of all those animals put to sleep just to clear room, some arent even ill or old.

Sorry for your loss
I am very sorry that your parents had to put your buddy down. My daughter has dad to do it three times in the past 12 years. It's never easy and it takes a lot of love to be able to do that. Your parents deserve credit for making this difficult decision. You will never forget him but I hope in time you will be able to laugh and smile when you look at his picture. sad flower

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

i had my dog put down 2 year ago after 13 years. was heartbreakin for the whole family.dont think i ever get another dog. wouldnt like to have to do that again
I am going through the same thing right now debating whether I should have my 16 year old dog (Jumbo) put to sleep or just wait for her to die naturally. She is sick but I can't bring myself to do it. Like yours, my Jumbo has been with us since my children were still toddlers and she has been a great friend and guard for us..
Cartman, not Carman wow doh
@UR-Knight....Help yourself to the post my Knight.

I would like to make a suggestion to other posters. When referring to ending your dog's life, especially in the presence of children, please say "putting down" instead of "putting to sleep". It has been proven that when children hear ... putting the dog to sleep...they are afraid to go to sleep themselves. So please make an attempt to use the technical term "putting him down".

I hope you'll understand that I'm not preaching to you but instead thinking of your children, or, any children you may come in contact with. Thank you fellow posters..hug
Got 3 of them. One died early this year. He'd just been 10 yrs with us. I cried for months whenever I remember him and whenever I see a similar colored dog. Was very sad esp when my sister told me that he would had the habit of sitting in the middle of the street facing road as if expecting somebody coming home. Cried a bit typing this comment. Never been home for more than 2 yrs. Still have 2 more. I love it when they go wild just seeing me.
Sorry to hear about your parents and your loss buckeye. At least his suffering is at an end now. I had to have 2 cats put to sleep within a month of each other. Snowy because of cancer just after Christmas last year and in January Scratchy when all of his internal organs started shutting down because of his age (he was 14 years old). Hard decision but in the end the best one. Bouncer will always live in your hearts and memories.comfort hug
It broke my heart to see how bad he was getting when I would go over there. He might not have been able to hear me, but he knew me when he saw me and would lean against me like he had always done when I petted him. He was a good dog. The vet said in dog years he estimated him to be 110 years old.
