Vintage

We are born at a given moment, in a given place, and like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born.
C.G. Jung

I was born in 1968. Under the Sun sign of the eternal warrior and leader Aries and the Moon sign of the mysterious and kind Pisces. Aries: the youngest sign of impulsiveness and fight for causes and Pisces: the oldest sign of sacrifice and dreaming.

1968: A wild year of wars, revolutions, violence, changes, women's emancipation, and protests. Prague Spring, the Hippies, Vietnam, Apollo 7 and 8, Jacky Kennedy marries Onassis, Led Zeppelin visits England, Nixon elected for President, Yale University starts admitting women, Beatles' "White Album", the Zodiac Killer, Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy's speech, Andy Warhol shot, Robert Kennedy shot...

I adore the fashion of that time! Simple and so feminine... smitten

I adore even more the music of significant rock bands formed in 1968:

Black Sabbath (as Earth)
Deep Purple
Judas Priest
Led Zeppelin (as The New Yardbirds)
John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band
Nazareth
Rush
Yes

What is your vintage and how do you feel it influences your personality? wave

Jana, Well speaking of vintage ( no not me ) I'm getting ready to go to Old San Juan for a free concert by Jukebox . They are a group that dress and perform like the Beatles . That reference to 1968 was not far off the mark either . . . . .teddybear
Thank you for another great video, Virgo thumbs up hug

Dear Frank, this music is evergreen :)) I wish I was there to enjoy them too!

Here is a Beatles' song for you (although not their original one, but one of my favorite ever):

Mine is 1954 with Ray Charles "I've got a woman".

Food rationing in Great Britain ends.
Merilyn Monroe marries baseball player Joe DiMaggio.
The Miss America Pageant on TV for the first time.
The beginning of Algerian War of Independence against French rule.
Jana, I know the guys in the band and I'll see if they can play your song in your honor .

PS: I do wish you could be here to see them also. . .hug kiss
Hi Riita! Amazing to know (remember) all this! I like to feel the "perfume" of a certain time! The 40s-60s is an amazing period which always attracted me with the history events, fashion, music, and everything... bouquet wave
Really, Frank??? It would be great :)) Tell me after that if they were good at it wink cheering hug
The vintage of my wine is 1944, so technically I am not a war baby because war babies were born after WWII ended, when soldiers came home and got busy with their wives. Families would gather around the family radio to hear the latest news, usually a big console radio, such as those sold by Sears in those days. Families would actually eat dinner together around the dining room table. It was only a year away from Winston Churchill saying, "Never have so many owed so much to so few."
My dad was building PT boats in Seattle, possibly even the very one that Kennedy later crashed into a dock.
Hi sweet Ariel! Good to "see" you!

Wowser!

I really feel old!!! 1941 was my year. Eddie Cantor was big so Mom named me Edward. I was Eddie for years. Later on as I start getting older 1947 and on up was the time for bands like Guy Lombardo, Freddy Martin, Glen Miller, Xavier Cugat and many more.

Mom would turn the radio on every Saturday night and we'd listen to these bands together. BUT, Rock & Roll overcame my soul in 1955 with Bill Haley and the Comets doing "Rock Around the Clock". Mom said this stuff would make me go deaf and she was right. I now wear hearing aids! hee hee

Great blog Ariel! And great memories!
Hugger, what a great way to describe your vintage! I have read books and seen films about it and your words made me imagine it even better :) Great sense of humor too! thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up hug

Unfortunately, the 1944 was a very unhappy year for Bulgaria and Eastern Europe since we were given to Stalin by the West and his communist servants started "building communism" here. Many people were killed, people were taken their property etc...
Great to "see" you too Ed teddybear I love listening to memories, I love the public and the private history, thank you for sharing! I don t know some of the names but I will check them out! Th 40s were crucial ages for the 20th century, you are happy to be born in that period! Here is the legendary song you are talking about:

Hey Ariel28 I checked out your blog and I'm just getting use to the blogs, anyway I was born in 1972 and I'm an Aries.
I've always love black sabbath, led zep, deep purple and a lot of the music from the 70s and 80s and I stil love it, I don't know if it's me getting old but I'm starting to listen to music from the 50s and 60s to now.
I stil listen to and like new music to, is that weird or what.
Caz.
Hi Casander! Thank you for the comment and welcome to the blogs!

Glad to hear we share same musical preferences :) Being open to different styles, bands, artists, etc is great because you can widen your experience. The decades 50s-80s are legendary for rock music, and especially before its commercialization and digitalization. The last big trend was grunge (in my humble opinion), everything after that just re-combines old stuff. I am not too sceptic to contemporary music though, for example I adore Rammstein, I like very much Godsmack and even some death metal.

Here is some Godsmack for you:
