Vintage
We are born at a given moment, in a given place, and like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born.C.G. Jung
I was born in 1968. Under the Sun sign of the eternal warrior and leader Aries and the Moon sign of the mysterious and kind Pisces. Aries: the youngest sign of impulsiveness and fight for causes and Pisces: the oldest sign of sacrifice and dreaming.
1968: A wild year of wars, revolutions, violence, changes, women's emancipation, and protests. Prague Spring, the Hippies, Vietnam, Apollo 7 and 8, Jacky Kennedy marries Onassis, Led Zeppelin visits England, Nixon elected for President, Yale University starts admitting women, Beatles' "White Album", the Zodiac Killer, Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy's speech, Andy Warhol shot, Robert Kennedy shot...
I adore the fashion of that time! Simple and so feminine...
I adore even more the music of significant rock bands formed in 1968:
Black Sabbath (as Earth)
Deep Purple
Judas Priest
Led Zeppelin (as The New Yardbirds)
John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band
Nazareth
Rush

Dear Frank, this music is evergreen :)) I wish I was there to enjoy them too!
Here is a Beatles' song for you (although not their original one, but one of my favorite ever):
Food rationing in Great Britain ends.
Merilyn Monroe marries baseball player Joe DiMaggio.
The Miss America Pageant on TV for the first time.
The beginning of Algerian War of Independence against French rule.
PS: I do wish you could be here to see them also. . .
My dad was building PT boats in Seattle, possibly even the very one that Kennedy later crashed into a dock.
Wowser!
I really feel old!!! 1941 was my year. Eddie Cantor was big so Mom named me Edward. I was Eddie for years. Later on as I start getting older 1947 and on up was the time for bands like Guy Lombardo, Freddy Martin, Glen Miller, Xavier Cugat and many more.
Mom would turn the radio on every Saturday night and we'd listen to these bands together. BUT, Rock & Roll overcame my soul in 1955 with Bill Haley and the Comets doing "Rock Around the Clock". Mom said this stuff would make me go deaf and she was right. I now wear hearing aids! hee hee
Great blog Ariel! And great memories!
Unfortunately, the 1944 was a very unhappy year for Bulgaria and Eastern Europe since we were given to Stalin by the West and his communist servants started "building communism" here. Many people were killed, people were taken their property etc...

I've always love black sabbath, led zep, deep purple and a lot of the music from the 70s and 80s and I stil love it, I don't know if it's me getting old but I'm starting to listen to music from the 50s and 60s to now.
I stil listen to and like new music to, is that weird or what.
Caz.
Glad to hear we share same musical preferences :) Being open to different styles, bands, artists, etc is great because you can widen your experience. The decades 50s-80s are legendary for rock music, and especially before its commercialization and digitalization. The last big trend was grunge (in my humble opinion), everything after that just re-combines old stuff. I am not too sceptic to contemporary music though, for example I adore Rammstein, I like very much Godsmack and even some death metal.
Here is some Godsmack for you:
