Life Strategies

Do you know what you are going to do today? Tomorrow? In one month, year, decade? Do you plan it or you go with the flow?

Do you have a route map in your life travel or you just wander about :)

Do you make little steps or do you sprint?

Do you follow the ancient moto:

Festina lente ("Make haste slowly")

or Shakespear's verses:

There is a tide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries.

Do you stop here and there and explore other paths, enjoy the scenery, the sunrise/sunset? Or you concentrate on the distance and the direction?

I personally, like to plan things and to act with clear purpose. I have great patience and put all my efforts in what I follow. On the other hand, I can be impulsive and grab the moment when I feel it.

I believe that there is a lot of truth in the saying:

Our destiny depends on our personality.

Hi Ariel. For the next few days I know what I'm going to do. In a few minutes I'll be getting ready for work. I have work again tomorrow and Thursday. Before work on Thursday though I have to take one of my cats to the vet for dental treatment. A check up last week revealed that she is missing two teeth, one tooth is rotten, one has a fracture, the tip of another has a fracture and she has gingervitus. Luckily they managed to catch it before any infection set it. She'll be staying overnight and I'll pick her up on Friday. I only make plans when it comes to medical check ups and if I decide to go away. I prefer to take each day as it comes. Have a good day.hug
I share this Parti! thumbs up And one more of my life rules which is a Bulgarian sayinfg: The wolf's neck is thick because he does his work on his own (= Don t be dependent on anyone) wink teddybear

Quadal, sadly, you are right! Another saying: The humans suppose but it s God who decides. You can substitute "God" with Fate, nature etc, but it all the same would show that we don t have full control on our life. That s why the question of life planning and vision is very interesting to me. handshake wave
Hi Sweetkitten, and nice to see you after a while!

Your approach is shared by many. We usually have vision for the closest "distance" and refrain from planning things in the long run. Maybe our dreams and hopes substitute such long-distance planning.

I hope your cat will recover fast! I love cats, I have a ginger little tiger myself wink hug bouquet
i have some clear goals in my life and i am heading straight towards them.. but i don't mind taking d-tours once in a while if it could lead me somewhere interesting.
Good strategy Teddy. Very similar to mine. Good luck in your travel! wave
I don't have a life plan or map - I have completely lost the plot rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Go with the flow, love surprises, spontaneity, hate routine, have to have for work I guess but even then, my day can change in a phone call - and I love the challenges that might bring. banana head banger applause

Newlife, I like how you describe your way, and especially: "I have lost the plot" :))

In literature (and life), the plot very often doesn t develop according to the reader's expectations. Many writers admit that they don t know the plot development in advance, cause it has its own life and logic. thumbs up bouquet
Mysst, I love winners! thumbs up thumbs up lips
i use to be dust in the wind in my younger days, bad sadly youth only last so many years, i try and plan little and then big things will follow, career wise i can easily plan, but in the love life dept not so muchmoping
Cherrie, when we are young, as we say here, "The sea seems to be only up to your knees". Everyday is exciting and new things happen, cause everything happens for the first time :) With time the new things get less but there is still a lot and a lot to explore or to re-discover things from new perspective/with someone new in your life.

I like your point of planning only the small steps. I firmly believe in Voltaire's Candid last words: "Let us cultivate our garden". For me, it means to focus and work on ourselves and our tasks. And the other will come. hug bouquet

I have to use a yearly wall planner, I wouldn't be able to function very well without it, it starts off with just B-days, then slowly fills up as the year goes by. Even then, it does not always go to plan, so, I just go with the flow. It usally works it way out somehow...wave
Ru, honestly I never had a planner roll eyes It s all in my head and what s not in my head it means it s not important enough laugh

Going with the flow... I always connect it with my favorite swimming images. I like swimming in the sea towards the sun and I go quite far out. Then I just lay on the water and let it embrace me. That s going with the drift/flow and I love it every now and then :) hug wave
thank you arielhug
Cherrie, you are beautiful, clever, independent, and with great sense of humor. A not so often combination. It s both an advantage and a disadvantage. But never lower your criteria, there a strong and confident men who can value a woman like you. I personally have always been attracted only to such men bouquet
I have many plans for my life,
But it seems life has plans for me too.
This is the drudgery of life.
Choosing what you want and making it fit with what others want for you.
One sure fired way to make God laugh is to announce your plans grin
Non..You look like Ringo Starr in that Photo!!!laugh laugh thumbs up
On a serious note,
I think it is important that we set ourselves goals,
Short term, Mid term, and of course Long term.
Also we must work out how we can achieve theses goals, so maybe having little goals in between may help.
There is of course times when things do not got according to plans, so goals must reflect that as well.
Example,
Instead of giving yourself 12 months to find the love of your life, (well this is a dating site), maybe a better goal would be just to meet as many possible in 12 months, that way the love of your life maybe the first twenty-fifth person or the thirty-eighth person you met.
If goals are time specific, they may tend to fall, so i make my goals as flexible.
So far i have achieved
Marriage, (although now divorced), Children, Grandchildren (well at least one thus far), Owning a home, being able to travel, and to be of reasonable health.
Interesting Questions Jana.
Nonsmoker, thank you for the witty comment ;) Yes we may have as much plans as we want to and very often I am glad someone (life?) change them. When I look back I am glad something I wanted back then, didn t happen. Something better happened instead :) So have trust in life and its plans about you laugh hug wave

Thank you too, Simmo, for your thoughts and for sharing about your life! You have achieved a lot so now you can to enjoy it and make new plans :) I can make a similar balance too, and it feels great when your efforts get rewarded. You sacrifice something but you gain something else.

I like your point about "flexible plans". Honestly, I don t like it much when my plans have to be changed but from a next perspective I always see it happened for a good reason and I believe that in the end things order themselves in the best way.

hug wave
I think that if we stubbornly keep to a time frame with our goals, we could end up bitterly disappointed and maybe feel bad about ourselves being failures.
Hence why i think having flexible time constraints to achieve goals helps us remain much more positive.

One door closes, another opens...........
Hi Cyn, very interesting observations, as usual! I will start with your last point: the more advantages one has the more challenges they meet. I can think of some possible interpretations of it but I d prefer if you elaborate it first.

As about the X (unknown) factors, not sciene nor religion have been able to give an adequate enough answer of the factors that rule our life and its direction. There is the free will of the humans. There is God/the Fate/The Chance. And what is the balance between them? Is everything determined and we are puppets on strings or we can do whatever we want to (voluntarism)?

I strongly believe in one thing: That we are given choices in every moment of our life. (Except the initial choice: to be born or not. Some philosophers protest against the violation of our free will by us being deprived from the choice whether to be born or not. Others say that the souls, which are eternal, choose whether/and when/and how to incarnate/to be born).

The right of choice is a sacred right we have. handshake bouquet
Very true Simmo! I have found out that whenever I rushed things too much just to fulfill some plan of mine, they don t happen in the best way. Respecting the natural flow of things every now and then works better. And seeing the positive/benefits in the negative/losses.

handshake wave
the more advantages/talents we have, the more challenges we face...

well, maybe you have an idol ??? Alain Delon, or maybe another famous people ??? we can take many lessons from them...
Cyn, I agree and I still can think of many famous/talented people who have had an "easy" and happy life. Maybe it s up to the character not talents. A talented person who is very vulnerable, insecure, etc, would struggle with the popularity effects: the hatred, envy, lack of private life... And the opposite: A talented person with strong character and stable philosophy of life would not be (so) affected of these challenges. In all the cases though, the talent is a challenge. The lack of talent, too. The question is how we use the personal advantages and disadvantages we are given. It s a real art! bouquet
I do my best to plan things but then so many other unexpected events occur that break up my plans so much so that they almost don't exist and the extra time to fullfill them doesn't prevail ... so I end up with one big organized unorganized mess .... Before I know it, I'm buried stuck hole I'm only one person - could use a little help here? lol help rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing wave
