EU strikes again, young women drivers this time

Although an old story this ruling comes into effect now-

"A European court ruling last year found that gender discrimination in insurance was against the law.

Insurance brokers are reporting rises of 40% or more in some quotes".

Some women drivers are facing an increase of up to 60% it is reported today. Mainly affected are women under 25 as they will see the biggest increases. This ruling also affects life insurance etc.

Non, yes I was unsure whether to make this a blog about the EU or insurance companies, it does make one wonder who orchestrated this wonderful new piece of legislation confused frustrated
The original case was launched by an Irish Man back in the 90s I think. uh oh

He wont be popular now sigh
Non, indeed not & I bet he's also disappointed by not getting a reduction in his premiummoping
The car insurance here in Canada i.e. the cost depends usually upon the 1. type of vehicle 2. the age 3. the condition 4. and the age of the person driving i.e. under 25= much higher 5. and of course the drivers' history... accidents, etc.
Gullie, same sort of thing in the UK, but up until now women drivers have been accessed by insurance companies as being a lower risk & have thus been given lower rates, the EU has ruled against this but of course the insurance companies have raised the rates for women to match the mens, no mention of reducing mens rates as they are now going to be overpaid. dunno
Here in the US it works the opposite and young men under 25 have the highest cost because the have the most accidents.
This may well force a lot to stop driving their cars thus reducing traffic on roads; a possible benefit in the long run...wine
Saddest, that's how it was in the UK till now.wave
Solitare, an interesting thought but history tells us it won't be the caselaugh

Parti, sounds like a nice little earnercrying Here they have a reaction test for over 50's, one of the many reasons I won't change to a Spanish licence, that has been one good feature of the EU in that your paperwork works anywhere within the EU & of course allows me to live herewave
I agree with your blogs commenters.... and it is laugh any my pockets are aching is a funny comment.
