The Guardian reports:
More than 60 million people in Italy have been placed under lockdown after the government extended emergency measures across the entire country in an attempt to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Chat, that was yesterday's news, it's the whole country today.
z, the story has today's date and Google states the total population of Italy is 60.48 million as of 2018.
We're not too far off... are we? laugh
Chat, any mention of The Guardian and I don't bother reading, just assume they're wrong laugh It's the extension of measures that's the big news imo, the Italian economy wasn't exactly robust before this so this could have knock on effects for the EU, especially as other countries are only days behind Italy in terms of numbers, that said it will effect the world economy in a matter of days, or if you count stock markets it already has.
Austria closes border with Italy, you need a medical certificate to get through, they don't say but I suspect if it's older than about 5 minutes you still won't be allowed through.
that's my holiday to Italy gone this year, and to anywhere else. I do not want to pay for a holiday to have it cancelled and ins does not cover.

More spenders for new flat, yep I move next month. down sizing yep further, no garden this time but hope happier and healthier this place I have been ill one after tother doh shingles this time very mad yep its very hot and sore. you could not make it up truly

don't need no papers to tell me news either I just get it as I see it, yep I go in for forseeing the future now. laugh laugh laugh
It seems totally weird to have got through winter, enjoying the spring and anticipating summer and then be told a walloping virus could knock you flying - I really hope those who are saying the hot weather will see it die back before next winter are right. I hope those who expect there to be efficient medication or a vaccination before next winter are right. And I really hope the southern hemisphere, going into winter, is not going to start into the cold weather with this looming over it at the current rate of spread.

So is this going to run as long as the Brexit blog, with as many unexpected extensions and complications? uh oh
I think one thing every country should think of doing is quietly lining up some younger leaders on standby because it does target the older members of society. Could be a blessing in disguise, come to think of it but CS could become a ghost town uh oh

Which would be a real shame when we finally all had something in common.
Red, you won't be alone, I can't see many people going anywhere in the near future doh It will likely decimate the tourist industry short term, that being the case I'm wondering why the pound has gone down and not up today confused
cs will be busier than ever as we will all be in lock down and all we will have left is cs doh peace
zman some one could be making a lot money again just like last crash.
VL2, would be nice if the virus is killed off in hot weather, air conditioning could become a thing of the past laugh
On the bright side I've checked my stock of toilet paper and I'm ok for a year or two laugh
Red, scold that's scaremongering, telling us all we'll have left is CS uh oh rolling on the floor laughing
Well, Red, we'll have to see who forecasts more accurately you or me laugh
Look as long as we stock up on a few beers then all will be okay on cs beverage delivery
Vivian me me me cheers
Spain is in second place after Italy.

Next all our borders and airports will be closed here too!

All Schools have closed for 2 weeks in Madrid.

The Murcia area, where I live, has also a few casualties.
stay safe Daneila in fact all us oldies on cs. hug
Red, I got in month's supply last week beverage delivery but if we're going to be on CS a lot I'd better get some more tomorrow laugh
Thanks Red.
To tell you the truth, I don't worry about it.

I have a strong immune system and a built in anti virus. I let it do its job
AI_1984, we're very backward round here, always the last to get anything, so far haven't heard of any cases locally uh oh
It's certainly intended to reduce the population Zen.

Remember the Georgian Guidestones? They want to reduce it to 500.000!!devil
I suppose try keep away from others as much as you can but you need live and we all have to die not just yet if all oldies keel over goverments will be having a party I thinks
Heard it to that the virus does not like hot weather
Did I not read that someone in Africa became ill? wave
Dani, as the guidestones didn't work maybe this is the next part of their project dunno
V, so who do you reckon is behind it dunno drug companies pushing for bigger profits, Greta Thunberg, group of militant lessor spotted sticklebacks made homeless by a motorway extension dunno confused
JJ, well I'm determined to survive, I paid into my pension for years and I intend to get value for money professor laugh
Jenny, not sure the scientists know yet how weather will affect it, but I think if someone who has it sneezes all over you you'll catch it, just that it won't last so long on surfaces like shopping trolleys, so the infection rate should go down dunno
OK, we're all doomed professor UK's health minister tests positive for the virus, and we're taking advice from the health department doh

Z, you said it yourself, governments and / or pension companies would not be tearful to lose an expensive unproductive and growing percentage of the population. Why you alone must cost the pensions department a small fortune every month, that huge whack you're on. scold

Why didn't my earlier comment self-destruct? confused
This is HUGE

If she bounces back, panic definitely subsides

If she doesn't - oh my hold onto your hats.
V, I'm fairly sure that's why they voted to leave the EU, the public realised they couldn't afford to pay my pension as well as fund the EU professor

I reckon your comment didn't self destruct as you're in MIB and not Mission Impossible laugh
V, she had a meeting with Boris last week, so add the EU to the list of possible perps doh
Greetings Z,

Could you please re-open it before next year... I am hoping to travel to Italy next year? wink
Abagail wave , remind me closer to the time and I'll deal with it professor EU member states are quick to act on complaints from ex-pat Brits uh oh liar laugh
Italy can take a long walk off a short pier in my opinion. Seems they are neither testing nor treating the over-65s.

I trust the over-65s are having long public whinges about it and grabbing every sleeve they can find. Prioritizing the ones likeliest to recover over the ones likeliest to be hit hard - ah, feeling the love.

Young whippersnappers.

zman you have started your own virus now laugh laugh
Take sensible care and what will be will be. cheers beer keeps the virus at bay. Dr Red has spoken
I had my 65th birthday last Sunday and since I still have to work another year before my Government pension kicks in, I think to select those 65 and older is somewhat unfair, if we are young enough to work and pay taxes, we should be young enough to escape being euthanised by an over-excited government.
Red, I'm taking the medicine as I type this drinking laugh I've earnt it as I've been out panic buying at the supermarket laugh managed to hold myself back at toilet roll isle banana laugh
