Organ donor's right to choose

As everyone has the right to choose to be a donor
What is your opinion of the donors right to choose who gets the donated organ

Would you want your lungs to be given to a chain smoker or your liver to an alcoholic

After all if you have chosen to treat your body with respect and your organs are healthy enough to be considered suitable ...

Should you not have some say in the use of them

You ever weighed your dumplings. ..

wow
I have dumplings??conversing
Blue sorry i have not read all comments

In my country they are trying AGAIN to bring out a law that when anyone dies they can remove organsvery mad

Not an opt in just a take, WELL i did opted in, my choice, but when my choice it taken away, i will opt out.

I know the arguments about doners not enough, but if i did not have enough money i could not just take a bottle champagne of shop shelves== hope you get what i mean.

Your other point about choosing is a good one, maybe not a person per say but liver to alcoholic, the one about lungs though i stopped smoking 10years ago but still have lung condition were maybe i might need lung transplant??? problem for some i reckon, for me no i would not want some one elses organ inside me.

Good blogthumbs up
To come back to your original question... Yes, I would certainly donate my organs as they are all healthy and I would certainly want the right to choose whom they are given to.

I personally wouldn´t want any organ from someone else - even if it was to save my life - unless, of course, it was from a family member - as you end up inheriting some of the traits from that donor.

One thing which is getting more and more common these days is bone marrow transplant. They now have a much easier way to extract it from a person and donors are needed.

This, I would certainly volunteer if someone needs it, as my immune system is perfectly in order.

doh we agree Daniela we agree cheering cheering i thought this day would never come grin Just joking all said in fun, but i do agree for the same reason as aboveteddybear
Mind you it wouldn't be so bad if the donor had special gifts but what about if he's a psychopath? wow

So I think...as far as receiving organs from a stranger...One has to be very careful of the source. uh oh
i thought organs were just a bunch of cells. i didn't know there were personality traits within the cells. there have been movies and books about such things. it sounds a bit superstitious to me.
Our DNA is stored within our cells, Free.

Having said that, I believe that my own DNA would far outweigh any potential traits from a donor.

My ex had to have a double transplant. He didn't query the origin of them, he was just grateful to the donor and the family for having donated them, and giving him a 2nd chance at life.

I too would be grateful.
Free---Molly for starters i myself think when things are that bad that i would need a transplant then that is it for me.
euthanasia is my route.

The other about inheriting things from donars, well research at one time said some folk who had never been musical ended up playing piano. Later found out donar was a muscian.

Another person hated certain food but after transplant liked it, finding out donar loved that food.

Other research had been done too on how brainy someone was after transplant--meaning knowledge he had not known before.

I know stories--fictional, have had a blast at stories containing this and they were fun to read---well some, but they stemmed from this research. Not every transplant but some.

Now my reasons for not wanting transplant are not for inheriting this or that, just simply i do not want anothers organs in my body simplzgrin teddybear teddybear
i want to be musical. i'll take the organ. i'll take 2 if i can sing
I agree with what Redex says here. Traits ARE transferred through the cells.
doh Sorry Daniela i did not say traits WHERE passed on ----I said research was done and came to that conclusionroll eyes

The rights or wrongs of that, i do not know, as in later years i did not follow up on this research as i knew i would not want a trasplant anyway.

I may just try and find new research as the one i was referring too was when i was in my twentiesteddybear
Sorry ...but you said about people inheriting some...whatever and had become musicians.

I used the word "traits" which is a synonym for what you said ..or you could say gifts?
In the research Daniela well we all know the ins and outs of some research dont we now
When I give to charity I'd like to know the money is going to those in need and not the administrators but - gift is a gift.

I'm on the organ donor list, and carry the tag on my car keys. Pity the poor lug gets my lungs, though. uh oh
If I had the input or the right to choose who would receive my good or working organs like most people I would probably make bad decisions based on emotion not logic . I think that in theses things it is best left to the professionals . They also may be poorly informed or have an emotional conviction, however they do seem to make the right decisions more often than not . I'm also going to be dead so I really don't know or care what happens to them !
...then I assume neither of you have made wills and are also happy to let the experts dispose of your assets in the same professional manner...
rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
I certainly won't be left intestate ... I made a will when I was about 40.

As for being a donor... I am a donor. What they choose to do with body parts is inconsequential ... at that point I will be dead. grin
I'm a donor.....though it makes no difference to me who my organs are donated to.

Anyone in need, would be just dandy.

It comes down to a question of ethics? What is wrong or right...happy to leave that decision to the hospital to make.

I won't be worrying about it, for sure.
U.S. Organ Donor we Selected is..

Maybe hospitals should focus on the medical side and get them out quickly.
Taking time to check your preferences seems like a waste.
A good liver is not something you gain at life or earn , it is either there or not. You do can destroy it but also there is a social or genetic aspect.
