Trees

So many countries are planting plenty of trees. I wonder if there is enough water in the world for watering all the trees and satisfying the human consumption.

Latest mask mandate for Omaha.

Wearing a mask in public places in Omaha will be a choice and no longer a legal requirement starting midnight Tuesday. applause applause applause

I gotta admit, it does feel a bit awkward to walk into stores or restaurants without a mask on grin after 9 months of doing so.

Art and I went to have fried chicken today, 15mins drive from our house.

Nothing fancy, just raccoons ( and cats too! ) watching while we eat.

Remember the hamburger?

When I was a kid, I adored the taste of a hamburger. It was simply awesome. Over the years I lost my love for the hamburger. How did this happen? Were my taste buds changing, or has the hamburger changed? For years I believed that I had aged and my food preferences had matured.
Then in the 1980's I found myself living on a farm and running a small beef cow/calf operation. I had 2 Angus, 1 Hereford and 2 Charolais cows. I would go to livestock auctions to see what was going through the ring and one day an incredible Angus cow was brought out with her fat little bull calf. The cow was not for sale but the calf was and the cow was brought out to show the lineage. I was the winning bidder for the calf which kind of surprised me to be so lucky. I concluded none of the big buyers present needed a bull calf that day. The truth was elsewhere. When I got the calf home I put him in the barn (it's good practice to keep a new animal separated from your herd in case he has cooties) he began eating hay immediately. This was odd because he was too young to be eating hay already. He also seemed to be coughing quite a bit. Not wanting to take any chances with infecting my herd I hauled him to a large animal vet in my Chevy van. He was found to have pneumonia and was infested with worms which was what gave him his nice round appearance, he was also about 6 months old, not a month old like I thought. This explained the hay eating. Thinking back I remembered something I observed in the auction ring but disregarded at the time. The mother cow was avoiding the calf totally. Apparently she had never even seen this calf prior to being brought into the ring with him. The other, far more experienced buyers didn't miss this fact and withheld bidding. They could see the scam the auction was perpetrating by offing this runt on some shmuck (me) and I couldn't. WTH, I grew up in midtown Manhattan I had a lot to learn about cattle farming, apparently I needed educating about livestock auctions too.

Forty Day Moussaka

A tasty dish to sustain a large family on a long wet sea voyage.

And God said unto Noah, take thee into the ark two extra sheep sheep sheep and a large oven proof dish, three cubits in length, two cubits in width, and about half a cubit in depth.

Make thee a shopping list, and send forth Mrs. Noah to the shops that she may assemble the ingredients to maketh a mighty dish of proportions sufficient to feed thee and thy kin for the duration of a lengthy deluge.

And Mrs. Noah took the list and brought back into the ark a multitude of ingredients; making three separate trips to the shops.

And God said unto Mrs. Noah, make thee a Moussaka, and this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of:

First, thou must mince the flesh of two lambs sheep sheep , which thou will put into a large heavy-based frying pan, along with onion, smote garlic, mint, bay leaf and cinnamon, whereupon thou must cook over a medium heat for ten minutes.

Next must thou stir in thy flour; then thy wine, tomatoes and tomato puree; simmer thee this mix for thirty minutes and set aside.

And Mrs. Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded her.

And God commanded that Mrs. Noah slice her Aubergines and fry them three minutes on each side, and afterwards to place them on kitchen paper to drain, and God saw that they were good.

And the Lord said unto Mrs. Noah, because I am a merciful God, I will not require that thou makest thy own bechamel sauce, but behold, I will furnish thee with one I made earlier, as bechamel sauce be verily beyond thy talents.

And God decreed that a third of the meat sauce be spooned into the three by two cubit dish, followed by a layer of sliced aubergine, and nicely topped off with the Lord’s own bechamel sauce.

For yet 35-45 minutes at gas mark 6 must thou bakest thy dish, forgetting not to sprinkle with fresh Parmesan.

Serve with freshly baked ciabatta, and olive oil for dipping. drinking

Next week’s dish will be the Recipe for Lasagne according to St. Matthew.

I love seafood!

Art and MiMi went out to celebrate a very special occasion yesterday.

We had calamari as a starter and we both had the same main course - lobster tail.

Choices of sides. We can choose 2.

Embedded image from another site

Waitress: What sides to go with your lobster?

MiMi: Uhmmm.... can I have the seasonal vegetables ( which turned out to be green beans ) and uhmmm ..,. spinach please? Thank you.

Waitress: And how about you, Sir?

Art: I’ll have the coleslaw and.......the rice please.

The moment he mentioned rice, I looked daggers at him and blurted, “You don’t even like it when I cooked rice at home and you’re ordering rice now?!?” I was baffled! confused

With a smile Art replied, “Maybe their rice is different!”

I was like roll eyes very mad mumbling

And he went on to say, “And if I can’t finish it, I’m sure you will eat it for me”

If looks could kill ........ very mad mumbling

I gotta say, them calamari was nice.

You are what you eat

I like cake, sometimes, everything in moderation. But the worst experience i have had is thinking a cake was sweet when it actually could have harmful effects. One such cake is the space cake...

ALTHOUGH THERE ARE CLAIMS THAT EATING SPACE CAKES CAN LEAD TO PSYCHOSIS OR PSYCHOSIS SYMPTOMS FOR SOME PEOPLE, THERE'S STILL NOT ENOUGH CONCLUSIVE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THEM. Originating from Amsterdam, space cake is a notorious delicacy that belongs to a group of cannabis-infused edibles.

This blog is open to discuss foods, the healthy and not healthy. Some people read all the ingredients on the packaging before they will eat it. I saw a woman who was always reading labels, she seemed obsessive, but if she knew what was good for her and what wasn't then i guess she was a step up on many of us. I still have a lot to learn about food. I want to eat healthy food but I don't want to be obsessive about it. I also don't want to be around people who are miserable and only nice when you serve to meet their need, and are jealous of your lifestyle. They drain your energy...this much i have learned. Life is a learning process, everyone is at a different place.

Dzhokhor Tsarnaev....Recall, all, one of the ethnic Russian Chechen brothers ...

...behind the Boston Marathon bombing. Three dead, including a young boy. And one college policeman. His brother got more instant justice, Glock style. And this ingrate immigrant, now is in Federal Prison, where Old Sparky still awaits him. Not to digress, but mother dear, also on the family dole, was caught shoplifting. Nice folks, all. And this crumb complains about the food not being up to religion of peace snuff. And sends a handwritten ckemency letter to Merrit Garland.
Well, for whatever reason, the ueber libs are working to save him, to dodge the death penalty. But here's the kicker.
As currently configured, the 1.9 TRILLION boondoggle, most of which goes to Dem causes, abortion and mismanaged cities/states, and not COVID, also includes $1,400 checks to federal inmates. Justice, Liberal styled.

Mummified rice cakes...

I don't have a better name for them right now, but it's a traditional Chinese New Year meal where you have seasoned pork in the center, beans around that and sweet rice on the outside. The entire loaf is wrapped in banana tree leaves and tied with string.
Boiled for a while and allowed to cool then sliced into sections about 2" long.
