a man's story..

I was recently listening to a man. He is about my age, a few years ago him and his wife broke up...she cheated on him. In the meanwhile, he reports that his ex-wife has been with at least 100 different men, including his closest friends.

He goes on to tell me about when they met. She had nothing, not even a place to live. She had a family that wanted nothing to do with her. She had an infant child who her own mother was going to testify in court that she was not fit to be a parent and the father obtain full custody.

He continues by saying, all the years while they were together...he gave her a roof over her head, gave her a comfortable home he built with his bare hands in the cold of winter. He paid her child support and provided her with everything she needed to survive. He taught her how to drive and helped her to get her driver's license. He never laid a finger on her what so ever.

He tells me, I am sure you have your life story as well.

He closes by saying that no longer is he going to let a woman abuse him.

I felt for that guy.

The Iceman cometh.

Guess I have to admit it, warm weather is over.crying I hate cold. I hate snow. Now if I could just figure out how to put a trailer hitch on a farm and become a snow bird.
I refuse to surrender. Bucket is still on outside wood furnace chimney. So started the fireplace. Most inefficient system invented. How much heat goes up and out, even with the heatiltors these have.
Plus bark and bits all over the floors from carrying in the wood. It is so nice to have the outside one, debris stays outside.
Geese are flying everyday. The river is full of Sandhill cranes. When I was a kid, never heard of them. A restoration project brought them back. Now they number hundreds on the river. Between the geese and cranes on does NOT want to walk barefoot on the sandbars. It becomes the river sewage flow.
I always wondered about the sense in looking up when geese fly over. Read somewhere they dump to lighten their load when they launch. Thank goodness. Saves us dumb idiots who look up.
I was outside, cats around like usual..MOVE..you have 4 feet, I have 2 and I can't walk with 6!very mad mumbling frustrated I hear the weirdest noise, cats are looking around too. Is it my chickens in distress. Then it dawned on me...snow geese!doh They are not around much, just pass over mainly. And the strangest gabble you ever heard. Although the Mergansers sound weird too.
My birds are home from the north. I put seeds out every morning in the satellite dish nailed to the side of the deck. I call them and they come flying in. And I yell at my cats..NO!scold sigh
Hens come up to the house, where is our seeds? I toss into the flower bed terrace. They do good raking.cheering They have lots of the leaves off the terrace already. I like them, they work for birdseed.wink
Finally had a killing frost. All my bucket planters are done except the lima beans. I don't know if I can protect them or not. Leave them covered and hope. Everything was so blasted slow this year.
I had seen ONE pear on my tree. Wrapped screen around it and watched it all summer. Saw it had fallen into the wire. Went the next day and it was GONE.wow Wire and all. A whole summer I waited!very mad Thinking s blasted squirrel?
This Saturday getting guys together and finish splitting wood and fill woodshed. Next state got 8 inches of snow already.
Crossing fingers. First deer hunt, 70 degrees in November. First Halloween bash, 70 at night. Boy did I get suckered. But, hope springs eternal. Mild winter. PLEASE?blues

Who could possibly make any of this up?

So, one of those stunning mid ocean coastal Maine fall days. Blinding sunshine. Almost 70 degrees F, with little wind. Being a cheap guy, I try to combine reasons for any road trip, and was in need of some power steering fluid to flush the system on my 20 year old new Volvo winter beater wagon. Only paid USD 150 for the old Swedish chariot, and did the work meself, to get it to sail through state inspection. But do I brag and digress? I may wax value virtue signaling/self sufficiency/renaissance man--- on topic, in a later Blog.
So early this morning, an email from state GOP headquarters comes in, inviting me to a rally in the Bangor area, near Volvo dealer, with a speech by VP Pence. Easily pushes the reasons for a 80 Km vintage road machine motorcycle trip into the "go" zone. Well, DUH!
We've all heard of the tens of thousands showing for these events, but seeing it in person is impressive. Saw my first secret service agent, at least identified as such, with big letters on her vest. She was definitely not guilty, as well. A helpless sucker for a heavily armed hottie in uniform.
I pass through security, and into the standing room only area. Helo arrives with Mr. Pence and staffers, and I'm prepared to keep my usual low, VERY low,.profile He'll be in New Hampshire tomorrow.
Somehow, perhaps via Miss SS hotstuff, from my chatting her up, word got around that the VIERK, in all his spendor, was in the audience. SS shuttles me to a seated position near the stage, and after the speech, and Q & A, I'm led into a private gathering behind stage. The VP greets me, with his gracious wife, and I also meet a bunch of travel functionaries. But here's the kicker.
Mrs. Pence informs that at a nearby table, a gaggle of hottie staffers are excited to know that the VIERK himself is in the same room with them. Smoking Cohiba Presidentes, with staffers of both sexes, and even the VP lights up. Apparently hotties all are giggling, hoping for a chance to meet the VIERK, and perhaps to make an impression on him.
Got some girlie contact info, and a possible invite to be a science advisor, after Messers Pence and Trump's re-election. Then I got the PS fluid, and rode home, to let you all know.
Can't make any of this stuff up, folks.

How much in control of your life are you?

If the rubber really hits to road and life as we know it really takes a dramatic turn in a different direction...how much control do you have over your life?

Take for example, this pandemic....many businesses were involuntarily shut down, people lost many jobs, people lost loved ones, people lost relationships, and people lost places where they lived. Did they have any control to make the outcome different?

Take for example, when you get old....some will lose their minds and not know their loved ones who come to visit them on a daily basis. Others will have no control over their bottling functions and defecate all over themselves. Did they have any control to make the outcome different?

Take for example, at any random time....an unidentified vehicle comes and visits you from overhead. You have no recollection of it ever leaving as you watch it overhead from your bedroom window and you and your partner mysteriously end up in the middle of the room facing each other. Did they have any control to make the outcome different?

Those are just a couple of examples I can think of.

With those in mind...how do you proceed with your life? Do you proceed with your hard principles tattooed on your forehead and scream your opinions out where everybody is to hear your voice because what you think is sooooo important.

or

Do you proceed with your life with complete faith and peace that you are doing the right by your fellow woman/mankind. You know things of this life are out of your hands and to try to take over control of what is out your hands can be very stressful and can threaten your health and therefore make a peace within difficult to obtain.

just some thoughts...

Happy Friday all.

Best high risk job

Being bored to tears the past year I took a job as a 7-11 coffee boy. 4am to 11am, 6 days a week. I get coughed on daily. I believe I contracted Covid 19 back in October from someone heading over to Wuhei from Dulles that day. I had all the symptoms, 101 fever, feeling like I was drowning, etc..
A doctor I decided to see after work when my personally owned gauge said my O2 saturation had fallen to 87 agreed with me I had something, but we had no idea what it was. A chest X ray just showed the scarring previously known of when the left lung upper lobe was burned by sulfuric acid inhalation back in 2016, and some light congestion down in the lower lobes. But clearly with just a little exercise in the doctor's office something was happening as myt blood O2 quickly dropped to 85 and I had to rest. An EKG showed no heart abnormality ongoing. With hindsight I wish we had collected blood samples and done a nasal swab.
Instead it was decided I must have COPD. When I disputed that I was checked for Alzheimers as maybe I had forgotten an earlier diagnosis. Sadly I was able to draw a clock and remember the test words. So much for the Alzheimer condition. Still mostly believing I had COPD the Urgent Care doctor gave me an anti viral, an anti-biotic prescription and a nostril spray used by those with Asthma and sent me one my way with instructions to rest at home and go to the ER if my blood O2 dropped or I felt worse. With a few days of rest I began to feel better and returned to work.
A few months later the news of China's problems broke. Something about eating raw bats. Talk about strange foods. Then still later the accusation it cam from the military games. To that I say hmm, as my customers for morning coffee I knew some who went to that. Positioned to the West of DC and Dulles my 7-11 gets a lot of morning commuter traffic.
I provide first coffee to a lot of cutie pies. It is amazing how many drop dead gorgeous females work in the DC region and stop off for coffee on the way to work. Some DC area magnates of note too. Of course I also chat with little people. Store clerks, delivery persons, television reporters, police and fire persons, hospital workers, doctors, nurses, even a few hundred illegals going to construction jobs. I am on a first name basis with many. Some disappear for a few weeks and when they come back they tell me they were traveling, or they were home sick with a flu, or their shift changed, whatever. I remember what they liked to drink and ensure it is there. I provide an ear for them to rage about their coworkers, the Democrats, Trump, their cheating spouse, business competition, the evils of gun control, the importance of gun control, whatever they wish.
Several women have provided contact information and we have done outside activities together. Meals, hikes, dancing, whatever. Good times with no strings.
If you are an aging hunk with multiple incoming revenue streams and mature enough to recognize when enough money is enough, working part time at 7-11 or a similar store is great. Whichever direction your s*xual tastes run, trust me, you will meet someone who fits them to a T. Your skill at the diaclectic will serve you well. You will learn things too. If your coffee urns are full go stand and talk with them while they smoke their morning cigarette outside. I knew of the 2nd whistle blower at least 2 days before the media did, LoL. I hear stock tips (but don't act on them, like I said, mature enough to know when enough is enough). As stated above a lot of my essential customers sneeze and cough these days, but that is pretty common. Convenience stores would love to maintain distance, but there is no way of doing that. Sometimes we have 30 or 40 people waiting in line at the cashier. AC systems like Covid19 almost as much as they like Legionnaires disease. If we batch them up at the door waiting for the store to empty, then we create a crowd, so that is no answer.

portugal

I,ve written a poem or maybe a lyric for a song.

Portugal.

Portugal my lady you have given me your Algarve.
With her sunshine that brightens my day.

You have given me your people .
Who smile at me each day.

You have given me your trees and flowers
That bloom in your walm winter.

You have gaven me your houses.
Painted blue and white.

Your have given me your beutiful calming blue sea.
With sailing boats, thier white sails dance in your yellow light.

But most of portugal my darling
You have given me this man.
In his autumn years,

Happiness.

Written now 22.05 with no editing 10 september 2016.

I dedicate this to the people of portugal who I,m proad to say many are my friends.

Fall..tis the season to panic!

It was a summer of heat or rain or both. So time frittered away and now it is October. That to do list...uh..oops?doh help Now it is work the temps. Too cold to paint..cut brush. Clean the chimney, got that done. ]
Had a quote to cut down a couple oaks. Man, do I hate oak trees! Each tree has gazillions and gazillions of leaves. Which fall one by one by one, hanging on for dear life til Christmas! ARGH! Rake other leaves and they are done. Or rot by spring. Oak leaves...nope.frustrated Rake and sweep and tomorrow, do it again. Finally snow covers it all. And then spring thaw comes and the flower beds and everything are solid oak leaves.crying They NEVER rot!
Guy gave me a quote on just ONE oak. $2,500!wow Sorry! At that I can BUY a pull behind bucket lift! Or rent one is I could find someone with saw who knows how to use it.sigh Guess I rake.
I searched on line forever again for tarps. All are poly and none will last more than 3 years before my birds make nests of blue. The good is vinyl. Check prices..grrr. What to do...back to used billboard vinyl. I did finally drag a section I had to cover one carport I built. I hate the weight of them. And not that cheap. But, this one is ancient and still OK. Then ran into a company that not only sells used, but new by the foot. confused dunno I measured the dog trot, figured and thunk about it. Called..you do check over phone, yep. OK, I ordered a 16X100 foot run of new. 86 pounds. It got delivered..poor UPS guy!
My boarder and I got it up last week. What fun..me on top..MOVE cat AGAIN...him below. Got it up and over, pulled and yanked and then I threw string over to tie it down. It just touches ground. But, 20 foot plastic sheeting is under it from before so should be ok. It was $240 and shipping. Quite a bit lighter than the old billboad which is nice.
Hired a guy with chainsaw and we/he cut brush trees from behind one garage. I used to mow when living in that house. Moved up here and rented the farmhouse. Each tenant like the jungle creep bit by bit. Now I will spray in spring any tree that thinks it will grow. More to do, next weekend.
Start to close the loggia ends with doors for winter. Sorry cats, back to other side of house to woodstove and shed to get fed. Be nice to come in living room door without screaming NO. OUT. NO!
Now it is pick what and which to do, see how temps are. Next two weeks above norm and no rain. Work! FASTER!mumbling
