Do you think I should keep my day job??

I needed a money order yesterday and stopped at the grocery store (in Miami) where they charge 99 cents, unlike the bank that's upwards of $7 and only available during bankers hours.

Setback by the number of people in the store, with the exception of the customer service line holding 6 feet between us, it was nearly impossible to maintain any form of social distancing throughout the store. Side note that explains why Miami has more cases of COVID-19.

I try to be aware of my surroundings and the music on their PA system started playing the song Missing You by John Waite. Okay, so my head was bobbing by the time he got to the chorus and the woman behind me was singing along. I turned to see and it was a young black woman, wearing a surgical mask. I asked if she knew who the singer was and she said "I love this song, but no, who sings it?" I said The British musician John Waite, he played in a band called The Babys. She thanked me for the information and smiled so strongly that her eyes squinted and it crinkled the mask. She asked if I liked her singing and I said it was very good... but the real question came when she said "Do you think I should keep my day job??

Happy 75th. Birthday Bob Seger !!

Bob Seger has plugged away on his guitar for more than 50 years, but there's more to the man than his hit songs. From his athletic background to his retirement, there's a whole lot of untold truth about this classic rocker.

Most people contain multitudes. And that's certainly true of Bob Seger. In addition to being a talented musician, he's also a lifelong athlete and competitor. Back in high school in Michigan, he really wanted to play football, specifically the glorious position of quarterback. But he couldn't cut it on the gridiron, leading him to turn to track and field instead. His years of hoofing it as fast as he could inspired one of his most beloved songs. As he told The Mercury News in 2019,

"I always wanted to write a song about being a runner. I don't think anybody got that, but that's where the 'Against the Wind' title came from."

Seger races against the wind not just on land but also out on the water. In 2001, his sailboat Lightning won the Port Huron-to-Mackinac Race in Michigan. And it turns out that he's quite the hands-on owner. Lightning crew member Mike Thompson told a boating publication,

"Everybody took turns steering the boat, and he was in the rotation just like everybody else."

Country Music Star... Gone Viral !!

I don't follow country music... but every time America is faced with a disaster, be it a shooting, plane crash, death of a public figure, some country singer writes a song that goes mainstream.

I'm up from my afternoon nap and have my pondering hat on.

Predictions, predictions... I'm sure I'm too late to pen some lyrics, pick up a guitar and record the next YouTube viral song about a virus across the country, urging Americans to stand tough, we'll get though this pandemic together.

This brings up the TV show called 'Gone COUNTRY' where singers from other genres would crossover from their normal music style. Twisted Sister's front man Dee Snider appeared on the show, goes off the rails and probably would have done well... except for the part where he 'shoots birds' to the audience. I'm looking for that episode on Youtube!

I did find this non-rock & roll clip of him:

The Beatles remove ‘Eight Days a Week’ from circulation after learning there’s actually seven

The surviving members of The Beatles have agreed to remove their hit song ‘Eight Days A Week’ from circulation after learning that there’s actually only seven.
The song will now be pulled from all music streaming services and removed from any future pressings of their ‘Beatles for Sale’ album.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have even gone so far as to ask fans to burn any physical media with ‘Eight Days a Week’ on.

‘This is an incredibly embarrassing incident for us. When I was writing the song with John, we couldn’t remember if there were seven days in a week or eight and we didn’t have Wikipedia or anything to check with,’ said Paul.

‘It was mainly my fault because I insisted there was an eighth day called ‘Hymday’ and we were all so smacked up on drugs that no-one debated me,’ said Ringo.

Music fans are now busily scanning for factual inaccuracies in the entirety of Coldplay’s back catalogue.

J-POP...

YouTube has endless selections of Japanese Popular music (J-POP for short) and most are headed up by all girl bands. I came across one group BAND-MAID, five young women wearing sexy maid costumes.
At first, I thought their instruments were props... typical of some American bands that had real musicians behind the scenes while they pranced around the stage... not to say that there aren't any like that in Japan. BAND-MAID can hold their own with real talent.

I've listened to a few of their songs and amazed how good they perform!

Typical of many Japanese bands, their music is sung in Japanese and every once in a while there is a phrase in English.

"I've gotta be on my way"

Edith Piaf : Tribute 10/10

For some one who does not know much about all things French. Can’t speak or understand French. I am totally unqualified to to pay a Tribute to this great person, singer Edith Piaf. I have heard couple of her very famous songs. Her voice is so powerful and the lyrics that pierces your heart.
Edith Piaf sadly passed away on the 10th October 1963. She was born on 19 December 1912. There were couple of very sad events in her life which broke her. It would be good to have comments from a French person or a person who knows more about her than I do.
Currently Stella Artois is doing an Ad in UK and has lead me to this tribute.

She blinded me with electronic music...

I've always been fascinated with music created with synthesized and electronic sounds. Roland is one of the companies who for 2 generations has been a leader in the manufacture of devices like analog and digital music synthesizers, digital sequencers for both studio and live performance.
In 1982, British musician Thomas Dolby released a New Wave single titled "She Blinded Me with Science" that was created with layers of electronic drums and 'synth'
Thomas was awarded (by Roland Corporation) at the NAMM show in 2018 for a Lifetime Achievement and he performed his song She Blinded Me with Science giving the background to the making of this hit!

Paul McCartney...

I've always admired the song writing skill/talent of Paul McCartney.
Having only seen him perform live once about 12 years ago when ticket prices were $250, I coughed up the money. It was the last show of his US tour and I didn't think there would be another South Florida Show after this.
I went with a friend who was a dedicated Beatle fan and the people who were behind us caught Paul's 2 previous concerts in Florida. They joked about being arrested for stalking him.
79 year old famed bassist, guitarist, pianist, singer songwriter, vegetarian, positive thinker, billionaire, grants interviews and acknowledges fans who have bought his music and followed his career for more than 4 decades.
Giving up the ghost and letting his white hair show through the dye, he's been overdue for another face lift.
In an undated interview, Paul gives out some interesting background to some of the collaborative efforts that went into Beatle and solo songs.

Have a listen...

The bigger the cushion...

It's everywhere !! Women on dating and social media sites with photos of their large backside. I'm not attracted to big butts and don't understand the concept... Is it actually a lure for men, or do women with big butts only believe it is?

In high school I often heard the phrase: The bigger the cushion, the better the pushin'
Maybe there's truth to that statement. I don't know.
