2 Ohio football players suspended for waving 'thin blue line, 'thin red line' flags at game

Even though they're no longer suspended, they should have never been suspended in the first place! very mad

Two football players at Little Miami High School have been placed back on active status after being suspended from practice for carrying a "thin blue line" flag and "thin red line" flag across the field before their game on Sept. 11.

School officials said in a statement Tuesday the students did not get permission from district officials to carry the flags on the field and that's why they were suspended from practice while they investigated the incident.

"School administrators must act when students break the rules, and these students were suspended from practice while the incident was investigated," Little Miami Local School Board of Education President Bobbie Grice said in a statement Tuesday.

Following the investigation, Grice said they found there were no political motivations behind the display of support for first responders, however they still broke the rules by not getting permission to carry the flags.

The players have been placed back on active status and the incident will be addressed as an Athletic Department Code of Conduct issue by coaching staff.

"Little Miami Local Schools is saddened to see this story take such a negative turn. The district enjoys an outstanding relationship with our local police and fire agencies," Grice said. He went on to reference an event they had later in the day in honor of the anniversary of 9/11.

"As the season continues, the only two flags that will come through the Little Miami football tunnel are the flag of the United States of American and the Little Miami spirit flag. The Board of Education supports this decision of district administration," Grice said.

The incident has since been shared all over social media, capturing the attention of President Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr. who tweeted, saying "It's outrageous that these students were punished for celebrating our amazing police officers. They showed real courage standing up for what they thought was right."

Big 10 announces return to fall 2020 football

About time, but why wait until Oct. 23? They already missed the first two weeks, now it'll be 6 weeks before they ever start play. They should have never cancelled in the first place.

Are you ready for some (American) Football !

Due to Covid-19, it will be a strange season.
Indeed, there will be no pre-season games.
They are literally kicking off tomorrow night
with the Texans visiting the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Now baseball has had their problems with Covid-19,
quite a few games had to be postponed due to infections,
and that's a MUCH more socially distanced game than American football.

So, for a game with many huddles and lots of physical contact,
it will be interesting to see how they will take virus spreading precautions.
Perhaps instead of water bottles, there will be sanitizer bottles
rushed out to huddles. laugh
The next superbowl champions may be the team with the most players infection-free.

Nonetheless, I'll be watching.

I brake for Pickleball...

Pickleball is a sport played on a court that is smaller than tennis, with racquets that are like ping-pong paddles, only larger. It can be played as a singles game, but often played as doubles because it's quick action. I've seen a few pickleball courts in my travels and it seems to attract women as it's social and less strenuous than tennis.

Near one of the courts, I found a bumper sticker on the car of an avid player. Although they give warning that they brake for pickleball, it would appear the driver behind them didn't.

VIP movement in this area...

I spent the holiday weekend in Miami (pressure cleaning, patching and painting) with three sessions of model helicopter practice in the local school yard. No rules and no one to bother me.

Arriving home Sunday evening and checking email I see the government issued a few flight restrictions this past week in the airspace over Fort Lauderdale and others in Palm Beach County.

It goes without saying the VIP was president Trump in town. His public online calendar showed he was away Thursday (surprise visit to the troops in Afghanistan) and back to Mar-a-Lago on Friday and stayed through Sunday afternoon.
During that time, all outdoor model aircraft are banned from flight within 30 nautical miles of "Area A" as outlined on an attached map. Although his calendar showed he left Palm Beach Airport at 4:20pm (still daylight) but the ban is in effect until midnight.

Now that Trump claims Mar-a-Lago as his primary residence, the model aircraft pilots at the county sponsored airfield in Palm Beach will be shut down more often.
Good thing there's another park in West Fort Lauderdale on the edge of the Everglades that's outside the no flight zone restrictions.

Working hard..... at having fun.

After a very nice weekend, I rolled out of bed this morning and got changed for my playoff game
in the fast pitch league.

Last week we lost the first of a best of 3 series, despite having all our good hitters and fielders there.
So, this game and the next one are crucial,
if we want to continue on to the championship series, which of course we do.

I was very aggravated during our loss. Indeed, the other good players were aggravated too.
Our manager is a very nice guy, but unfortunately an idiot.
Plus, he found a sponsor for the team, so we don't pay anything to play. thumbs up

Nonetheless, the whole year I have been complaining about our line-up.
1/2 of our team is made up over very good hitters and about 2/5 of it are people who should have
retired from softball over a decade ago, and the rest are somewhere in between.

Our very nice coach wants everyone to play and his idea is to
also distribute the bad hitters evenly throughout the line-up.
What this does is kill just about every rally.

I have been preaching, "NO ! You want to bunch the hitters together, so that we score runs."
His retort is that, "then some innings we will have no chance to score runs."
I said, "the way you do the line-up, we have little chance to score runs every inning.
That's why we only scored 1 run the whole game."

So, he threw the book down and said, "you think you know better, you do it and lets see what happens."

What happened this morning is we scored 3 runs in the first inning and went on to win 9 to 4 against that same team and that was without having one of our best hitter/fielder. tongue
