Beautiful People

“Do not let your beauty be that outward adorning....; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” (1Peter 3: 3)

I marvel at how beautiful, and amazingly awesome, babies and toddlers are. I am always captured by their innocence, curiosity, joy and even distress that they can express, usually without much reservation. Their instinctual responses towards others around their age, natural and man-made objects and animals, and sounds, tastes, and textures, are so free of the artificial. With them, God’s awesome power of creation is truly a beautiful thing. They are beautiful on the inside, and the outside.

But I have discovered that babies and toddlers are not the only beautiful people that God has created. I have had cause to marvel at some who are beautiful in spirit, and that, to me, is just as awesome. Babies and toddlers have not had to face the troubles, disappointments and other unpleasant or traumatic experiences that Life generally ‘dishes’ out to older folks, so their innocence and beauty has not been tainted. However, I have been blessed to have met beautiful people whose spirit of joy, peace, compassion, goodness and love was unmistakably obvious, belying any scars that they had received from Life. They make me feel as though I was ‘absent’ when God gave such a gift. :(

I think that, that ability to smile from within, to endure challenges with grace and to put others at ease with the power of one's inner beauty, is really something to aspire to.

What defines beauty...

I went to high-school with a girl who was 'scary ugly' and we made cruel jokes about her looks "She was so ugly, her parent's had to tie a pork chop around her neck just to get the family dog to play with her"
Southern humor, I know.
Around the time we were in college she was driving a luxury sports car. Coming from a middle-class family, everyone took notice. Her looks changed, but not from the ugly duckling to a swan. She was still 'very unusual' and the story was she became a fashion model. That 'look' was marketable.
At that point any local guy who wanted to date her... didn't have a chance.
What defines beauty?

Emotional

The other day I went to the nearest Lidl for groceries. Nothing dramatic: some fruits and… fruits. Would be a usual day and nothing to write home about, but upon arriving at check-out I’ve discovered that I didn’t have my card with me…

…I’s paddling the previous week-end and then I don’t take my whole wallet with me. In order to keep it “lite” I take only my driving licence and my card, leaving the whole heft of the wallet at home. I usually put the plastic squares back in upon returning…

…but not this time. (Any chance I’m emotional?)

So I’m staring into my wallet and see no card, but discover a 100 SEK note. (As an after-thought: if I stared hard enough, would I discover more?) And I tell the cashier that I’ve forgotten my card at home, but I have 100 SEK. And if my purchase costs more, then I’d have to abstain of some of it.

And then… (the heaven should crack at this point) a man, that checked-out before me, says: I pay gladly for you and you can swish me that amount.

A short mute scene… and then I say that I don’t have my mobile with me, but thank you nonetheless.

…I don’t always have my mobile with me. And the last I’ve paddled, I’ve forgotten it in the car (am I emotional or what?) And I expected to meet hordes of seals just lying there staring at me, because I had nothing to take a photo with. (When you have your mobile, they dive into water as soon as you appear at the horizon. They let yachts and motorboats pass “without a turn of their cabbage head”, but get all agitated, when I’m splashing by in my totally ecological and sustainable vessel. Unfair, to put it mildly… and where can I complain?)

…The man stays put while I’m digging up wee coins that’d add to 112 SEK of my purchase and then, when it was obvious that the matter is settled, he just disappears with a light nod and I don’t even have a chance to thank him properly for being there for me.

...cried the whole 35 min on my way home. Am I emotional or what?

There are men on this planet. And I am so sorry, for my own sake, that I always busy with my own emotions, when I should just enjoy the treat that Fortune sent me.

Climbing trees.....at any age....

Here on the sprawling thousand hectare V estate, we have all sorts of trees. The fruit trees are typically under 15 meters in overall height. The berries, of course, under a meter. But the gymnosperms, evergreens, can grow in age and health to well over 35 meters. Senior oaks, as well. Perfect for antennas of all sorts-great for keeping in touch with the aging walker assisted radio amateur community, And for those not addicted to TV, a more sensible way to enjoy this dying/morphing broadcast medium, without the confiscatory charges of the cable companies. And to quote Pink Floyd, almost all Shite there anyway. Infomercials and the God squads. For well under a hundred USD, an antenna does it quite nicely. Also doubles for FM radio, which doesn't, BTW, seem to be in the throws of media death. Add a rotator, and being here not far from Oh Canada, way ooouuut there, Eh?, ---and even a few of their stations come in, on some nights. And get this, these are still analog modulated signals. Easy way for me to get my daily dose of liberal Canadian PC, as well. But I digress. Climbing one of these formidable plants is at once vigourating, and indulging in living on the edge. The women in my family use other, more colorful, words here. Because the lower sub canapé branches have long fallen away, one right through the roof into one of the servants' cottages, a small ladder is needed to get to that first sturdy branch. But then, successive ones run right up to the top, where luckily, no Ospreys or Eagles have decided to raise their young, YET! When this happens, the nanny state regulators bestow sainthood then on the plant. Hands then off, VIERK. But by retaining just a tad of our simian skills, the branches are typically spaced well within reach of even a shrimp like me. The safety trick is, of course, after assessing the strength of each next branch, in keeping three out of four monkey limbs attached at ALL times. For taking down trees, chainsaw in hand, a climbers' leather belt is best, but I used rope, when I took down that threatening big pine, with the roof piercing 100 pound lower rotting branch. All in 8 foot sections, tilted by a come along. Neighbor's took them all for various uses. And how marvelous is the ascent. A tree is an ecosystem all its own. The protective bark is a marvel of bioengineering, yet how all those beasties breach it is amazing. The woodpeckers somehow, without everlasting headaches, easily go right through, thereby providing deeper access to all sorts of insects. One sees it all. Occasionally, a red squirrel loudly chirps out disapproval from above, even bombarding the climber with stored acorns, only to vacate the premises as the approach to the crown continues. All sorts of abandoned bird nests, most also engineering marvels, await the climber, some, rarely, appear to be either stolen, or reused. But what do I really know? Lots more, folks, but eventually we reach the top. These trees seem to grow first by laying down a circumference of small proto branches, with an apical central shoot branch leading the way, ---usually, these are strong enough for some pesky birds of prey to mount a huge nest. But for those of us who don't use wings too fly, the perch usually is strong enough to allow leisurely views of the ocean bay, and distant hills, along with all sorts of water craft, and sea life, and birds/insects on the wing----the latter all being for another nature blog.

Obedience

The lack of certain qualities in the modern day female are certainly having an adverse effect on their allure from the point of view of the human male. For instance, submissiveness, fragility, shyness and an overall delicate or graceful demeanour are associated with femininity. If those ain't there, then the woman automatically loses in appeal. Imagine a chick attacking a pitbul with a sledgehammer while cursing like a drunken sailor? A rather alarmingly common occurrence these days. Is that hot? Sure enough, plastic b00bs can make up for that but I'm personally rather old school so I'd still rather have her have both the b00bs and femininity.

What, do you think, is the quality which is having the worst impact in this regard? Can this explain the soaring popularity of the Asian female as the female per excellence?

Men's Standards of Beauty Around The World

There are plenty of men from all over the world who are attractive. BuzzFeed did a study with 12 countries and wrote an article and made a YouTube video about it.

Mind you, these men are models, so your mileage may vary.wink laugh

I like the term metrosexual, but I didn't know lumbersexual was a thing. dunno I'm on board with the long hair, but you can keep the beard and the plaid shirt. I'm also on board with manscaping. We women have to keep ourselves groomed, why shouldn't men do it too?

Being Single and Irresponsible is My Excuse!

Y Latino tambien!!!! Hee Hee!!

Happy New Year to all on CS!!!!

I didn't do anything. I went to bed early and was awakened by the gunshots. When I finally got out of bed I had a great breakfast (I like to patronize Mom & Pop places so I go to a place called Johnny's Famous Hamburgers in Pomona, CA. Breakfast is served all day).

In a few minutes I am going to watch a bowl game. The ONLY one on free TV. Dang those expensive cable and dish channels! Then because I want to root for Oregon against Florida State I will go to a local bar and watch it there!

What's up with everyone else. Let's post and I will be back later this evening to answer!!
