...Every now and again, I turn over the stuff I've placed in my compost shed, and there's probably close to enough to cover the garden next year with a thin yet highly nutritive layer. If the sloth subsides. The stuff looks like how the land in Egypt does, after the Nile recedes each year.
Dark, warm and damp, and awash with beasties of all sorts. So I KNOW it's the world's best fertilizer. But today, while pitch forking the pile, I saw weeds growing---the same sort that we see all about here on the coast. In these northern temperate climes, the rapidity of the green growth is amazing. Within a few short days of the last snow melt, the place resembles the rain forests of the Amazon.
But this particular weed species, which typically grows to half a foot in height, had numerous branches, all growing OVER the top of the 4 foot open entrance to the shed! And as with the beans in the garden, were displaying a bit of the vine attachments Jones as supports. Glad I was not too lazy in getting to it, or I would have been able to climb to the clouds, like Jack and his beanstalk.
OK, so it's really no surprise, all this. But just another example of how fascinating is biology. Wish I had more than a mere 30 years left to admire it all. Or 20. Or 10. Or,or,or.

But the Dem Pols' siding with the AOC and Fake Indians of the world, to a large degree, makes for further yellow puddles, for just the right folks. The TD-HD Syndrome victims have empty bladders here. Just ask about what the fence sitters think of the looting, the arson, etc., ---all in the name of anarchist Trotskyists, such as the BLM crowd. Who hasn't seen every ounce of it? Now more inner city gun deaths than ever, with demoralized coppers. More gifts of the Dems and their ilk.
And who really believes Mr. Biden will survive, much less prevail, in the debates?
But hey, even if the rank sexist pander move, a real Hail Mary pass, to have some affirmative action female as a running mate, should work, so what?
Many changes are already in play, thanks to promises kept. And with 4 years of Mr. Biden, and alt leftie congress and policies---well, the next time around will do it. If you like the way the Dems' running schools, inner cities, welfare state, and so on have done us all, well, just stay tuned.
The real strength of a democratic republic, designed by the wise founders, is the back and forth.

Sometimes you feel the smell first. Top note: a lot of freshly chopped cucumbers, base note: fish oil. And if you slowly circle the place, it just might to let you see it.

Sometimes you turn the corner and there it is: lying on a low stone, basking in the Novembrian drizzle, clapping itself on the stomach. You stare at each other for a moment, equally surprised by the encounter. You are exited as a child, your counterpart has “darn inconvenience” written all over its face. Then the elements draw your vessel away.

But sometimes you just feel the presence. Unexplainable. No smell, no sound, just presence. As if someone is staring at you. You turn around and yes, it is staring at you.

And it happens – you are tired, frozen and happy with the day, shoveling water all you can ‘coz the sun is setting and the marina called and inquired: “where are you?” – that it suddenly emerges in the front of your kayak and looks at you from five meters distance for long enough for you to take off the gloves, fish up the mobile from presumably waterproof bag and turn the camera on. At that point, it will close its finely outlined nostrils and large gorgeous eyes and submerge, no splash, no sound. Did it really happen?

Saw as well a sea-gull catching and carrying away a crustacean. Imagine: to experience flying before your death. If only everybody was that lucky!

When driving home had the newly born crescent in the right corner of my windscreen, thin and bright, for 20 minutes. Then the road turned.

+5 C, cloudy and 2 m/s SW, which guarantees an event free paddling tour, but yesterday was windy, so the sea was rather choppy.

The usual baby-sitter couldn’t make it because of a minor injury, so I got a younger baby-sitter. Insurances and pleadings, that I’ll be fine on my own, didn’t do the trick. People have different ideas about what danger is. Had to accept the reality.

He’s the first time in those waters, in good mood, smiling and making small talk. I’m preferring to be on my own. Or at least left in peace. Led him through the crabbiest parts of the fjord, looking for the seal. No luck this time.

Around the first corner of Jonsborg, there is a low stone there that’s covered with water during high tide. The seal likes to lie there and then it looks like a seal is lying on water in the middle of the sea. (I have a picture.) No luck this time.

After rounding the second corner, we anchored for a tea break – the youth had thermos and cookies – so pleasant to get warm drink after all that seallessness and all…

And then on the way back, after we had chopped through an ice field – thin, but you can’t really paddle through ice – the youth said “It can’t be better, than that”, I sourly answered: “Oh, sure it can”… and there it was. Just appeared above the surface and looked at us. My companion was as enthusiastic and happy as I.

The seal let us see it for a few more times, but didn’t follow for long, as it had done a couple of times before.

For one contestant's husband, second place wasn’t enough.
The Miss Gay Mato Grosso 2023 pageant in Brazil on Saturday was interrupted during the crowning ceremony by the husband of the runner-up.
Miss Várzea Grande Emannuelly Belini and Miss Cuiabá Nathally Becker could be seen holding hands on stage as they waited for the winner to be announced.
Right after the winner was announced and a pageant official moved to place the crown on Bellini's head, Becker’s husband stood up on the stage and snatched the crown away, throwing it to the floor.

The man tried to get Becker to leave the stage with him before returning to grab the crown and throw it to the ground. Several audience members could be heard screaming and security eventually stepped in to remove him from the stage.
Pageant organizers released a statement on Instagram on Monday condemning what happened.
“We vehemently condemn the incident that occurred at the time of the crowning of the elected Miss, when the partner of Miss Cuiabá...invaded the stage and aggressively destroyed the crown,” pageant officials wrote in a message translated from Portuguese.
“We would like to inform you that the legal team for our contest has been contacted and will take the appropriate legal measures," officials continued.
“We sympathize with the elected Miss, as well as with the Miss who was in second place, since she is not responsible for...attitudes of third parties,” officials added.Link:People.com
