Robbie, I expected much more sense out of you than this!
I've stood on this issue and stated facts many times, my friend, and I'm just not in the mood tonight before I head off to work...but the basic is that gun control isn't the answer. Taking the guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens just puts many more of them in the hands of criminals. That's a proven fact.
Want the stats on crime vs. guns in this country? Read John Lott's book "More Guns, Less Crime". He was in favor of gun control and set out to back up his position with statistics and facts. What he found was, in fact, the opposite to be true, and now lobbies against gun control.
Done on this for tonight...have fun. It's getting to be time again for me to sit in front of the TV and relax for my final hour and a half before leaving for work.

Gun control doesn't work. What has to be done is to put into place stiffer penalties for the use of a gun in a crime.
In the cases of the killings at Virginia Tech and in Binghamton NY, the first is known to have had mental health problems. Second, both were immigrants and should not have been allowed to buy any type of gun
Then they will use poison.....next time they will use a bomb.....next time a fuel truck......next time a semi truck through a crowd or building. The problem is people treating each other like garbage. Look at the shows for kids.....a bunch of smart mouth egotisical uppity better than you brat.....teaching our children to be like adults and tear down their fellows for the sake of pleasure and ego. A person who feels good about themselves and about life and their fellow man never blows the heads off of his friends. We need to change how we treat each other.....it is us that are creating monsters day by day. Then we say....huh....they just snapped.....wonder why he went off his nut.....maybe it was prozac or a family mental thing....Foolishness! Man kills not a piece of metal.....they kill all at once and we kill each other day by day and word by word.

Earl
Unless they had become citizens, Earl. Once they become a citizen, they have all of the rights of one. Go back far enough, and we're all immigrants...unless you're 100% Native American.
how many people would he have gotten if everyone on the street was shooting back ? gun possession should be mandatory . when you go through a roadblock the officer should ask for licence proof of insurance and to see your gun if you don't have one he gives you one and a ticket for not having a gun .

Exactly, Rilly...if guns aren't available, these people will find another method. Gun control is NOT the answer.

I'll disagree on making gun possession mandatory, though, Adam. It's a free country...we should have the right to choose whether or not to own a gun, but we should never force anyone to do so. I don't believe in infringement on one's rights in either direction.
In response to: Do you believe it's about time that gun ownership was made more difficult for United States citizens?
I think here in Kentucky, we have a great "gun control" system. I wear a gun on my hip freely if I choose and, the crime rate around here (my neighborhood) is practiaclly non-existant. For those not knowing, we are allowed to bear arms as long as they are visible. However, concealed weapons are against the law.

The problem with allowing an immigrant to buy guns, they have to go thru a background check and that is difficult when it comes to getting info from some countries

In some states such as NH and here in NC, a permit is required to carry concealed. I have one for NH

While I don't think its the owning of the gun that is the problem, I do think people feeling hopeless and desparate is. If people do not get the proper help to deal with some of their mental issues that drive them to kill I am afraid this situation will keep repeating itself. Almost anyone can snap if the right buttons are pushed, its knowing the signs to look for and getting them the help they need before they hurt themselves and others.

How many more people need to die needlessly before gun control is instigated?
