A proposed mosque being enabled at the WTC site, would not be first on my list of approved projects for the area, but not being a resident there, it is not for me to judge. That is for the residents of that area, and the need of such a site, along with its benefits.
A blind man can see that this a sheer provocation...Representatives for different muslim-organisations keep talking bout "building bridges"...,but between what???A modern democracy and a medieval society....Step by step....don´t you think otherwise...Just like to quote Abdirisah Waberie(candidate for moderat party in Sweden,-governing right now)....-"The idealistic society(Sweden),is an Islamic state..,where politic&economy is ruled under the "guidance" of Quran...Youth´s should not have girl/boy-friends,dance,popmusic,movies should be avoided, man shall be the head of family".....,and on it goes.....And guess what...some people from certain parties protested loudly,-just to get slagged off as "islamofobics"....Step by step....and end of story...No-one dares to question....Different continents, but the same purpose....
oh yes...almost forgot,while on the subject...There´s a quite amusing film out there,-called "The Mosque of Notre Dame),-quite funny...Can´t recall the director,but if I´m not mistaken,it was a woman called Edorova(not sure)...Anyway,-it might seem laughable,-but if WTC turns into a 12-stock Mosque,nothing´s impossible...And what´s next-Pentagon...

Well, you may not live in NYC but on September 11, 2001 along with every American from Maine to Hawaii you were an honorary New Yorker. New York is a part of your country, is represented by a star in the American flag and is one of the 13 states that is also represented by one of the stripes. A red stripe, like the color of the gallons of blood that was shed that day. Not a white one which is the color of surrender.
This is my answer to whoever attempts to stick a shovel in the ground to build a mosque at ground zero.

Loved the statue of Liberty picture ooby, and I will have you know that on 9/11 I was on the phone asking if I could be re-activated with the 39th Airlift Squadron despite my age, they said no. You, like many of the uninformed, probably did not understand the point I was making in my post. I don't have the time, or space, to give an entire history lesson, states rights, and trusts in "republican principles", but I TRUST the majority public in New York knows that, there is not any benefit, or purpose of a Muslim mosque at the WTC site.
outdoorgirlsun: Oh, but we're suppose to accept them with open arms??? We can't go on their soil, but they can come on ours! Our land to us is just as holy and theirs. American has always accepted any race, religion, etc and what do we get? A war started on our soil! The WTC site is holy, just as holy and we want it to be.
And don't let us forget the 96 military barracks bombing in 1996, the U. S Embassy bombing in 1998 and the USS Cole 2000. We let all of those slide. We've had enough!
Hey, why not mention the USS Liberty while you're at it?
You either don't get the point, or you're deliberately trying to avoid it. I was pointing out hypocritical attitudes, no matter how much you want to pretend they aren't.
As for your laughably ignorant statement "we can't go on their soil", do you even read or watch anything other than FAUX Noise? The US did put US troops on Saudi soil in 1991. The US could have operated from Turkey or Israel, but instead chose to set up camp in Saudi Arabia was a deliberate poke in the eye at muslim countries, an attempt to show force and that no one could hold them accountable.
Putting US troops in Saudi Arabia is as offensive to them as Chinese troops in Tibet is to buddhists. Or does it only matter if your "side" is violated, not anyone else's?

More Apples and Bananas? Chinese Troops were invited by Tibet?
deadbutwhy: You mean, to protect their interests in the country from Iran. And let's not forget, Iran had a functioning democracy before we decided to get rid of Mossadegh in '53.
Damn straight we protect our intersts around the globe...Just like everyone else does....Iran was over thrown by Muslim extremists and it has been hell to pay in the region sense...altho I have to say that is the norm in that area of the world....why should we as a country invest time ,money ,and lives ...and then just step aside and allow it to be taken away....that simply makes no sense at all...

I disagree ...we placed troops there because Saudi Arabia are our allies and they felt, and so did We that the area was unstable as Saddam invaded evey country around him and fought wars with everyone there ... He invaded Kuwait after accusing them of "Stealing" his oil I think in 1990....the Saudis were in fact scared they were next and rightfully so...
Suppose a group of Al Quida terrorists hijacked a plane full of ordinary people and flew it into Buckingham Palace or Big Ben killing 1000's of people in the process and years later they applied for a permit to build a mosque on the site. Would you or your fellow Londoners think it was ok? Do you think if the people who died that day could speak they would say "Sure, why not?" Somehow I think they would see this as a slap in the face.

Of course they would ...anyone would......
But because WE are basically a "Christian" country we have been taught to "Turn the other cheek"......
sometimes this is a good way ...sometimes not so good...
