mindfful: but
if they wanted it they could get it-
it is there.

yes people are taxed for it but some is given back across the board not like here

america has been becoming a class system for about 30 yrs and this recent financial crisis has really magnified, compounded and escalated it.

im sorry folks but truth be told i am somewhat of a socialist.
im for free enterprise but there must be some controls in effect at the levels of big corporations and dammit the small business needs to be the majority and there is no excuse for the so called greatest country on earth to have so many hungry homeless citizens
and i dont mean the addicts and 'rebels' that want to be outside society i mean the one paycheck away from homelessness families that dont even have 'those problems'.

as a socialist i would sleep better knowing we were all basically cared for. everyone deserves the basics according to human decency and the constitution. food clothing shelter.
a minivan for a home and a 99cent burger aint food and shelter.

a million kids wont eat today in the greatest country on earth.
i dunno what the answer is but i dont know why we arent asking the question either
well i do know why we arent- because the climate is such that we wanna clutch what we have and worry about ourselves lest we be next.

how one treats the least is always the most telling thing.
and what we are judged by.

I lean toward socalism too, actually.thumbs up

I believe also in respecting a country's beliefs and ideals, even if they do not match my own 100%. I also believe that if you live in a country where you dislike their politics, you either leave, or lobby to make a difference.

thumbs up

bob1959: You can become rich in America threw hard work, but you will also need to be ruthless, and be willing to take advantage of everyone around you. It's almost impossible otherwise.

Okay but this formula to success is it the one generally used to take America to the top?

Britain stomped all over other countries, under the mantle of Imperialism. So did Spain, Portugal, Germany and many others, Im sure.

They are not harrangued on a daily basis.

I guess it comes down to what Bandwagon is "cool" to jump on that particular year.

doh laugh

DodgeBabe: I guess a "normal" American is the same as a "normal" citizen of ANY country..

Hardworking, loyal, pasionate about their beliefs, full of love for their families and friends, more interested in how the steak is cooked on the Cook Out that evening than what is being discussed in their country's Halls of Power.

And just wishing to be treated as a decent human being in general.

thats the problem

cspan runs 24 hrs a day-anything one might be interested thats current or pending and in the hands of the government can be seen as they run 24 hrs a day so they are rerunning things so they can be seen. how many watch. or do they turn to CSI?

how many watch it and watch the government at work? the government they complain about and pay for?

they are more concerned that they have a grill and a steak and how precisely it is cooked than where it came from, what it really cost
or what was said in congress today.doh

then wanna run around demanding respect and arent even aware of the policy that foreigner is taking issue with-only focused on them 'bashing america'

good gawd if we were policing ourselves we would be bashing ourselves and making some changes but we have fallen for the okeydoke and our steaks and our fireworks and chest pounding

how can one say they are proud of something they dont even deal with on a day to day basis?

we are lazy- we want to scream about what they do after the fact when if we were paying attention and speaking our piece some of that stuff would never be passed

we have been taken in by the pursuit of things thinking that would be happiness! we have become too lazy to meet our responsibilities as employers and now when our hired politicians do what we wish they didnt we just crab about it on our pcs in our living rooms with our spoiled pets (22 billion a year last year in pet products sold here) and our big screen tv and 100 dollar a month tv subscriptions and our cel phones and we complain-to each other

doh roll eyes i should be proud of the state of things why?
like i said i cant be proud of our beauty-i had no hand in it- i can only be proud of us as a constituency and sadly-i am not

you all know this is my soapbox- im gonna sign out before i keep repeating myself and boring all of us.

cheers

I guess they are given a pass b/c their crimes are old and accepted as such. In the case of America, their not-so-covert operations and wars are still controversial topics, hence the intensity of the discussion from both sides.

Very true. Absolutely spot on.

Basically, other countries have behaved as badly, or in some cases much worse than the US has ever done, but because its "in the past" its overlooked. Double standards, I think..laugh thumbs up

DodgeBabe: "Recent surveys by Gallup found roughly 700 million adults would like to migrate to another country permanently if they had the chance. The United States is the top desired destination country. Nearly one-quarter (24%) of these respondents, which translates to more than 165 million adults worldwide, name the United States as their desired future residence. With an additional estimated 45 million saying they would like to move to Canada, Northern America is one of the two most desired regions."

The above courtesy of Wikipedia...

We respect each other, dont we? We respect each other's countries, dont we?

Why then, is it that the USA is singled out constantly on CS as a target of country-bashing? It seems strange to me, when it is listed as being the most desired country to immigrate to, according to this source - which is obviously considered a reliable one as it is used so much in CS posts!

I find it outrageous that Americans are expected to sit back, and be insulted and maligned on a daily basis by others. It is not even a question of which country it is - that shouldnt matter...it is the fact that others seem to think it acceptable to bash another's country. Its not. Its hurtful, insulting and rude.

Irrespective of what you think about a country's political stance and policies, as we mostly know - this does not generally represent the opinion of Joe Bloggs on the street. Therefore, it is unfair to insult and malign a country's citizens, do you not think?

I believe respect should always be shown for other countries. CERTAINLY, the normal citizens of that country who simply want to live their lives and respect, and be respected.

This applies, in my opinion to all our countries, not just the USA, by the way.

Respect for each other's lands and cultures should be a given. Nothing more, nothing less.

Maybe people could extend this this respect for the 'normal' citizens of Pakistan, a country that is much maligned quite often on here.

sigh

Many countries to this day have policies that stink. They do backroom deals every day, at each G7/G20 conference that occurs they are no doubt having coffee and discussing what is good for their particular country.

The only difference with the US is that they do it out in the open, rather than under the table.
