I sometimes wonder what this movement is all about. Here we are looking at how other nations treat their animals and judged them on what? A ten year standards that were imposed not by individuals but animal rights association.

How long has it been since we stopped transport of our animals via rail or road. I remember on numerous occasions following those stinking semis with cattle on them, with broken legs and up to 4 days without food or water. Few years ago we stopped transporting sheep to Iraq. A long one month gurney where up to 30% of sheep died from starvation.

So what do we really want to stuff up a very viable economy?

I tell you what, if you are really that passionate about animals.. stop eating the bloody things.

if we don't sell them some one else will,
so if we can keep a check on the one or two abbs that do the wrong thing, theres little point in cutting our nose off to spite our face,

Good for you PacificGull, with you all the way thumbs up

I do put my money where my mouth is, I'm a vegetarian.

If people choose to eat meat, that's their business, but it doesn't excuse the horrendous, disgusting, appallingly inhumane methods that are used to supply that steak or chop very mad

Well i hope if i say something tonight i won't be frowned apon, but i was brought up on cattle and sheep property, used to muster with my dad. Even back then, when we got the cattle together, in afternoon, they had a rest and feed overnight,Yes there are cattle trucks still running 3and a bit hours, but i think the big problem of inhumane is export live. I've worked at meatworks, so much export, we really only get the prime meat,(it is all exported) ,eg japan, i can't understand why they have to export live fallstop. The animals are soo stressed it affectects the meat. Just me working at a meatworks and pigs travelling 2hrs, the difference in appearance of meat. Has any-one noticed at some time red blood spots in bacon, it's called ikkymoses, it is caused from stress. The animals i think should be slaughtered here, and sent fresh. Just my oppinion, not that i'm a big eater but this is reality.

Personally I cant see why we have to export our livestock live.

We are quiet capable of slaughtering them here and keeping within the religious guidelines of some of these countries.

Was reading the Queensland guidelines, I maybe wrong in my interpretation of this, but I got the jist that a bruise on an animal = 1kg of lost meat.

I watched the world's biggest ships about the vessel that transports bullocks to Indonesia, the largest ship of its type. The cows go onboard in worse condition than they come off, air cooling and fume removal systems, fresh water and regular feed. Stock handlers from Aus watch the cattle and issolate any cattle that may infect other cattle of are just lame but isolate them to be safe and give them extra hay and feed to recondition them.

Personally, the people supporting these crack pot schemes to remove any industry where we bring $$$ into our poor old country would be happy if every coal mine was closed down, if every cotton farm refused water, if Uranium exports were stopped and all Murray/Darling irrigation shutdown.
Now we don't sell anything o/seas where do we get the $$$ to buy the imports we love so much?

Dont get me started on this! I find it so upsetting how many animals are treated.I think that so many forget that they feel pain just like we do ,they also smell blood and and sense the fear from others.
