robplum: every one was invited to offer there views and i've posted mine, your comments are interesting, quite silly i think shows you didn't carefully consider the hundreds of thousands (well over a million) John Howard and co indirectly murdered, yoru reply seems to my mind simplistic

Sure the brawling buddhists analogy was silly, but I can't see how you connect the war-mongering of leaders with their religious beliefs. Is John Howard even a Christian?
Good on you for writing a letter to th PM suggesting he shouldn't get into a war, you certainly have strong convictions.

no it is not a faith
You might like to reflect on the 500,000 children that are said to have died in direct consequence of the 10 year embargo on food and medicine compliments of Christian John and co who implemented sanctions in the name of all Australia.
There is an area with little difference between other faith based thoughts like those practiced in Iran, Israel and the likes, who also constantly engage in violence.
Sounds to me like a lot on here are quite incapable of rational thought, people that think others should just shut up and say nothing while millions are constantly being killed by the flawed thought process that constantly leads to violence, repeatedly leads to violence, an utterly flawed teaching that constantly causes harm to others...
If you studied Buddhism then you might be in a position to judge for your self, mean while i am raising concerns about senseless activities that are still ongoing which most people best as i can tell are complicit in the violence by staying silent while your servants are allowing continuance of the ongoing stupidity

I remember that there was this certain Jew named Jesus. He was persecuted by the religious of his day because he taught that God was freely accessible and wanting relationship with everybody outside of religion. He taught that the people were not under the power of the religious leadership of his country and time. For this, they killed him.

Look at where Anglican religion came from.... someone not liking the religion of the day (Catholicism) and setting up a new religion of their own. This is not faith in God, it is selfishness and self-centredness, and the desire to justify rebelion in the heart.

These leaders and many others might think that they are Christians, but this term was a derisive term used almost as a contemptuous insult by those who first used it.

Religion never has had anything to do with love, care or living in relationship with the creator.... so please don't judge the creator by these sort of people....

The problem with religion as Freddie Mercury said? God give me a choice?

In reference off just how many religions there are! I believe we are far better exercising our minds too evolution, what if this crude flesh state we are now is just a small part of the next stage in life where we become more of an electrical charge,

We all know that the body produces its own electricity so the brain can control the muscles!

So what happens when we die? Electric fields don’t vanish and as the body has no longer use for it, but the mind does!

I believe, that is the next step in evolution, for us all? Well maybe not for some off you that deny evolution!

serene56: Rob I find this an astonishing remark from someone who follows Buddhism?

Do you not consider that a form of faith?

saying i don't believe in some countries can cost ones life

a one creator or one god is an impossibility, others have a right to belief think whatever they like, but don't think i will disregard years of careful contemplation on emptiness for the grasping emotional minds from someone who has been to bone lazy to check up for themselves what other people interpret as reality. I freely admit i am only a student trying to comprehend the Buddha Dharma and have only been doing so since about 1982.
Records of Buddhism date back something like 23,000 years, not three thousand, or put another way round a mere 28 generations ago, when a carpenter was wandering around trying to share well meaning thoughts.

Grasping onto a solid self just leads to more and more suffering

the Buddha that we talk about today - Shakyamuni Buddha - was not the first Buddha according to the Pali Canon (The Buddhist Scriptures).

Depending on what source you look at, it is said there were anywhere between six and 28 earlier Buddha's.

i don't mind that you have your own views, my most recent post was not responding to you earlier post, i was just sharing my own thoughts

If you think your an all knowing one then good you must be supper cleaver

PrOwLeR_: You or your kids don't celebrate Easter or Christmas Bliz ??

Christmas was a holiday stolen from the Romans long ago, but they had a week long calibration! it’s the beginning off the suns rise from its lowest point in the sky! In the northern hemisphere, Which happens every year on December 25! Go figure?

Easter is the start off the first new moon in the northern hemispheres spring! Go look it up? After all these years you never wondered why the date changes every year? For Easter?

The Jews don’t do Christmas! But we do Santa claws at my place and the Easter bunny!

Mmmm chocolate!

We don't exactly get much of a choice do we? Society says that most of our public holidays are based on Christian values whether we believe them or not. In my house we use them as an excuse to cherish our families, not to sit around the log fire reading the 'good book' together. So we celebrate them yes, because funnily enough, we get time off work and we are bombarded by the Christian festivities but if I had a choice in what my children saw and believed to be true, then no we wouldn't.

Oddly enough, most of our Christian festivals/holidays have a deep-rooted past in many pagan beliefs. It was a way of the priests of the past to get the 'pagans' to accept that Christians have similar beliefs.

serene56: Thank you jem, you said all the things that I wanted to and couldn't be stuffed forming into sentences because this thread has quickly deteriorated into a religion-bashing platform.

As it was always going to.

Well that’s what happens when you hide the message that you are trying to send from the beginning?

We are all grownups here! We all know off all religions, we are far to old to be changed in our views or our opinions about faith!

If they only new this?

Well fortunately with you tube we know a lot more than any church is about to tell you!

We don’t care who you believe in! just stop starting wars! Over your beliefs against theirs!

We are all going to be ruled by China eventually so religion is useless!

serene .... religion, politics and football are subjects where many have their own views and or objectives, and narrow minded pig headedness rules supreme ...

my question was simple, I really only wanted to know if the world is as unfair and as harsh as some would say it is ..

I wonder if the same man were walking down the street handing out ten dollar notes, how many then would say he is mad, a lie, a figment of an imagination, or simply just not real ...

I'm wondering how many hands would be held out waiting to be blessed with this man's good fortune and eagerness to share it ...

I'll take myself to the stoning pit in wait ... and truly if there is a GoD ... I can see why he'd want to keep a low profile and have his PiZZa home delivered ... pizza ......... laugh ........... drinking
