Why should hunting be banned? It's been going on for centuries.

kidatheart: I don't see how in a properly managed system, that hunters could be doing any harm? They help too keep numbers in balance, preventing animals from overpopulating and eventually starving to death, or being culled en masse.

I replied to you due to your quote, because it's not a properly managed system.

It's appalling the way these creatures are killed. Over the years, various studies have been conducted to assess the level of animal suffering in the Canada's seal 'hunt'. An analysis by a panel of veterinarians funded by IFAW in 2001 showed that about 40% of the seals are skinned while alive and conscious.

Yep, various studies, funded by all sorts of groups, on both sides of the debate. I've heard plenty about it, seeing as I live here. I'm not in favour of commercial hunting of any sort, but I am in support of the Inuit having their traditional hunt. As I stated in my previous post, write Stevie Harper with your concerns.

got to go, but I'd be interested in seeing your supporting data. Anyways, re: hogs, tell that to airport operators and farmers.

If you eat road kill, yes that's gross!

People like you make people like me, afraid to take people up on invitations to their homes for a cooked meal. You never know what you're going to get served to you!

excerpt from the web based dictionary.

Roadkill cuisine is preparing and eating roadkill, animals hit by vehicles and found along roads.
It is a practice engaged in by a small subculture in the United States, Southern Canada, the United Kingdom and other Western countries as well as in other parts of the world. It is also a subject of humor and urban legend.

Large animals including deer, moose, bear and elk are frequently struck in some parts of the United States, as well as smaller animals such as armadillos, raccoons, skunks and birds. Fresh kill is preferred and worms are a concern, so the kill is typically well cooked. Advantages of the roadkill diet, apart from its low cost, are that the animals that roadkill scavengers eat are naturally high in vitamins and proteins with lean meat and little saturated fat, and generally free of additives and drugs.
Almost 1.5 million deer are hit by vehicles each year in the US. If the animal is not obviously suffering from disease, the meat is no different from that obtained by hunting. The practice of eating roadkill is legal, and even encouraged in some jurisdictions, while it is tightly controlled or restricted in other areas. Roadkill eating is considered unglamorous and mocked in pop culture, as it is often associated with stereotypes of rednecks and uncouth persons.

You don't have to live in a country to know what goes on there!

Even you must admit from photographic evidence, that the killing of seal pups is barbaric and frankly uncivilised.

An Inuit that kills for food,or any one else for that matter, is an entirely different subject. It's the unnecessary slaughter of an animal that I am against.

Glitch101: Fox hunting is supposed to be banned in the UK but still goes on.

Who in their right mind would send a pack of baying hounds and about 20 to 30 people on horse back after one defenceless fox.

People with too much money in the UK ,as it's just a rich man's sport.http://blog.peta.org.uk/2012/04/10-fascinating-facts-about-foxes-with-photos/
