kidatheart: I remember when you posted about it a year ago, sad to hear it's still going on.
At least they are on their land this year so far and shooting away from me . If there is any thing blown to bits and still alive tomorrow as has been in the past it will be on U-Tube .

the Kids video shows true hunting in a time honoured way, hunting which is sustainable and much more than hunting from a supermarket shelf, which we have been reduced to by overpopulation.

Anyone who thinks that the ban on Fox hunting should be lifted needs to see for themselves just what happens to one fox torn to pieces by a pack of about 20 hounds and as many people on horses chasing it to witness the kill.

This is a blood sport for the rich, and this particular Hunt has been prosecuted for breaking the ban on hunting. Our own Prime Minister has ridden with this Hunt.

Did all these people really need to kill one fox. What did they achieve?

Absolutely nothing but a jolly day out .very mad

Hunting for sport is outrageous in a so called civilised society.

tomcatwarne: I haven't lived in England for a number of years but the hunts then considered themselves above the law, and peasants who got in their way were dealt with.

They still do!

You should see some of the videos of the Terrier handlers and just what they get up to,along with the Hunt.

Talk about the elite and the serfs working together. Sickens me.

Each year, the Canadian government gives hunters the green light to bludgeon to death hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals. During the slaughter, baby seals are shot or repeatedly clubbed. Sealers bludgeon the animals with clubs and “hakapiks” (metal-hook–tipped clubs) and drag the seals—who are often still conscious—across the ice floes with boat hooks.

Hunters toss dead and dying seals into heaps and leave their carcasses to rot on the ice floes because there is no market for seal meat. Veterinarians who have investigated the slaughter have found that hunters routinely fail to comply with Canada’s animal welfare standards.

kidatheart: Hunting is the practice of pursuing any living organism, usually wildlife or feral animals, by humans for food, recreation, or trade. Animals may also hunt other animal species, but this is usually called predation. ...

guess there are different definitions, depending on you personal view to hunting in general.

You asked this,

kidatheart: What is it that you, or anyone else, means by just for sport?

Hunting for food is separate from hunting for entertainment (sport). Not once have I said anything about hunting for food should be banned, but only hunting for the sake of it. Hunting for sport serves no purpose at all, apart from giving people a cheap thrill.

Do you bother reading and taking in what you've been told, or do you just rant on and on without taking notice of what's in front of you.

Some people hunt to survive, subsistence, and nobody should have their right to eat taken away from them, period. Then there are those who hunt because they enjoy getting out into the bush, fields, or wherever. That's hunting for sport, but also for the meat. That may be for the preference over farmed/store bought, or just the enjoyment of the entire experience.

I meant for profit and the fun in killing just because they can
and not really for food to eat.

I'm a member of a hunting/fishing site and read a story where some hunters had killed some very young bear cubs. Those are the kinds of people who should be stopped.

sorry, you are right, and I do remember reading Kidathearts reply that we should speak to the Canadian government about that... or words to that effect.

He has a point specifically about the tribal and native inuit having a right to continue to hunt as their traditions all - that is all well and good. He has that point. However....

this group is a small minority of folk - exceedingly small group of Canadians.

To be very clear on my feelings about hunting....

I don't understand the sport of hunting - someone who takes joy in killing.... is beyond my understanding.

No need to apologise JK.handshake

This thread has had many twists and turns and become unpleasant at times, but basically all people are stating is that to hunt a wild animal for sport is wrong.

To my knowledge no one has denied the right to hunt for food to live on. It's just the wanton killing en masse that becomes abhorrent to people.
