was going to make this a blog but felt it was more appropriate for the forums. given its a straight up what do you think question. so what are your thoughts on long distance relationships? curious to see how many people are down with it. personally I don't think distance in miles should matter, if the person loves you, your close no matter how far. kinda like that song by metallica, nothing else matters.

Personally, I prefer to actually meet the person I am dating. I find it works better that way.

Nothing wrong with it, so long as you know what you're doing. Distance is a relative term. 100 miles is one thing, a few thousand miles and a border is something else.

I guess it depends on how strong a person is. I say this, as I was seeing a man from NH, only 2 hours away, and while he is still crazy about me, he couldn't handle being apart all week, so broke it off I was willing to do what was needed to be together, but guess he couldn't see the big picture since we were apart during the week. So for me, I know I would be very hesitant to get involved with someone far away, only because my heart was broken all due to distance. But, I know several people who make it work!

Everything Matters !
Long Distance Relationship is not the ideal relationship, and it is not for everyone. In fact, they’re really tough. really tough.
Anyone who has been in LDR knows about the long hours spend just talking through a phone or through a screen. We can’t see the person when we want to or when we most need them.. We can’t hug, we can’t hold hands, we can’t kiss. We lose the intimacy in a physical sense. But then LDR relationship becomes based on each other and nothing else:
• We learn to communicate, because a long-distance relationship without communication is nothing. • We learn to trust, because we can’t always see or know everything the person is doing. • We learn to sacrifice, because someone’s always going to lose a bit of sleep from the time difference. • And we learn to appreciate, as often, we take for granted the people and relationships in our lives because we think they’ll always be there. • we learn to appreciate and value every single moment we have with them. When we finally see that person after weeks or months of seeing them only through a computer screen, It is one of the greatest feelings in the world. When we’ve waited for something so long and we finally have it, we cherish it.
The key to a long-distance relationship is faith and trust.
Distance isn’t for the fearful, it’s for the bold. "It’s for those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for the little time with the one they love. It’s for knowing a good thing when they see it, even if they don’t see it nearly enough.”

Sorry just came out of my third LDR . This one was in my state but a 4hour drive away. Really nice lady but she decided to end it after a few months . So after three strikes (1 i ended and 1 we agreed to end) they dont work IMHO

just one more thing it might have been karma but every time i travelled for my LDR's i came home sick karma or omen
I think Bogart gave a good description and for me, I simply want to be able to spend time with someone spontaneously (as I can have long hours or do travelling for work) and wouldn't want to get involved in a LRD.
On the "Nothing else matters" - I know now that there are other things that do matter at this stage in my life, hope you'll find the one for you before that insight hits you.
skywarp92..i know we just met yesterday..the feeling is mutual we.both decided to give it a try though we are not sure if it will work..long distance relationship really work for two people willing to commit and sincere to have it.it might sound crazy or funny for others but that is why there is an online dating..not all are lucky enough to meet someone within their area and fall inlove with..one thing is for sure i am so happy to make you smile..i dont care about the distance, there is skype anyways..lol
