Happygolucky4u: Just stumbled on this thread Merri What a great start to my spring which is coming into play right here shortly, looking at everyone's lovely pics on here. what kind of tree is this? I think it is awesome! My favorite of course is the banyan I have said that so often in life I feel like a broken record.

The tree in Merri's photo (page 2) is indeed a native Australian species. It is a Silky Oak as far as I can see, which is one of the few Grevilleas that grow to tree height. Most of the rest are creepers, shrubs and bushes. They flower profusely and produce lots of nectar which attracts birds. It's evergreen like most (all?) Australian native trees and also produces wood with beautiful grain.
I've never seen a Banyan tree, Happygo lucky, until just now on Google, but looks interesting.

Merriweather: Hi Happygirl...

To be honest, I don't rightly know, except that once a year it flowers... I would say it is a native of some kind...

But the favourite trees in my street, are not mine, but the Liquid Ambers that my neighbors have... and they look their best in the autumn... so I will remember to take a shot..
Thanks Merri would love to see them with flowers in full bloom. But maybe wrong time of year for that request please I will have to google but not the same as a friends eye view wave

Silky Oak.....I have oaks but mine don't give flowers. Just regular old oaks mumbling They sound awesome providing nectar for the birds. Unless near a clothes line giggle I love the banyan because to me they have so much character and grow to be enormous here in my town. The many twists the bark takes on is what attracts me. I could look at one for ever and never see its entirety if it is an adult with many shoots twisting and turning. So good to see you posting again. I was just thinking about you a couple of days ago wave

Hi ah Happygirl

wave

Yes we are spoilt for choice in bird orchestra around here, its a never ending orchestra of bird and animal noises, and I do enjoy it.. but sometimes, I am fed up with the constant sea of eucalyptus trees... they are everywhere!! I must admit, some old gums are nicer than others, but no matter where I look, all I see is a sea of tree tops... conversing

but I guess, that is not a bad thing...

better than arid all round... I keep telling my self... grin

Love the birds, even the cockatoos who somehow thought a raucous screech might be a nice sound to attract a mate.
I love Eucalypts, they give off that nice fresh smell wherever you go. And you have to admit when they flower they can look very colourful. I like their grey-green colour although some complain it is not a "real" green like you would see in Ireland or Europe.

Yes, when they do flower, they are a lovely sight...

I love my orchestra of birds and I love crows... I think they are so majestic...

right at this moment I can hear the ambulance siren echoing around the valley, so the birds have shhhhhushed for a bit... dunno

Looks like a nice healthy Delia flower and plant. Once upon a time at Taree guy gave me a scented yellow Delia bulb a species developed in Japan over many years by the Emperor of Japan.
Got lost in domestic dispute.
