Accidents don't just happen. They are the result of at least 3 conditions that have to occure within a certain time frame or the accident wont happen.
Read this story and try to name all the conditions which could have resulted in a different outcome to this tragic story. I found about 7 things that if they didn't exist, this boy would probably still be alive.

State senators in Ohio are working on a newer Bill where BB guns and Air Guns will have barrels painted yellow or striped yellow (or some other brighter) color to help law enforcement distinguish them from more dangerous guns.
This could help but then some weirdo will simply apply the required paint to his over-under shot gun before taking it to school.

Waste of time. Kids always remove the orange or yellow cause it looks cooler, while real crooks paint the types of their guns yellow or orange so the police will hesitate just a quarter second too long before firing.
The first week of the idea, back in the 1970s it worked. Not much since then.

Condition 2, 911 operator fails to tell LEO the gun is probably fake.
Condition 3, The responding cop is a rookie.
Condition 4, The red plastic tip indicating the gun was a toy was removed.
Condition 5, The toy gun can't be distinguished from a real gun visually. (Look at the pic of the gun and you'll agree)

They are even regulated in some Countries!

The news is full of situations where someone has put themselves in a public place with a gun, pointing it at people, and many times that person is shot or killed
No one in their right mind would do that knowing there is a chance they will be shot.
I haven't heard anything about this boy's family life but I'm starting to think this might be what is called "Suicide By Cop".
