lifeisadream: Illegal Mexicans fighting in Europe and the Pacific region at that time? I do not think so.

Illegal Mexicans were mostly producing the food for Americans and some of them (illegal Mexicans) were working in factories.

There is no doubt that the USA is a consumer society and we do produce a lot of waste. We also BUY a lot of stuff from other countries. We are a large importer and that creates job.

But I seriously doubt we produce 40% of the world's waste. I would doubt that statistic if the Virgin Mother posted it herself, (regardless of the source, in other words,) Unless you are talking about industrial waste only. Then we do produce a larger percentage, maybe 40%? We deal with our waste here, but it is still a problem.

We have come up with ways to make picnic furniture & other hard goods from recycled tires and other waste. I just purchased earrings made from recycled materials from a landfill.

We are working on ways to use waste as a biomass energy or bifuel in place of things like natural gas. We are working on ways to conserve water and oil and generate electricity without fossil fuels, but the oil lobbies fight that at every turn and that is wrong. ALL newer cars manufactured in this country are capable of running on gasoline (petrol), ethanol or a mix of both. But lobbying by oil companies caused it to be illegal to have our gas engines converted. That is wrong.

We already have the capability to be energy independent and then the rest of you won't be able to complain about our bad habits any more lol. We also have one of the largest and most spectacular National Park and Wildlife Refuge systems in the world. We protect and preserve a tremendous lot of open space.

We are not perfect in the US. We need to increase consumer education in the schools and in the media. Spend a little more time recycling and a little less time on the Kardashians...lol

The US as a country is 7th in recycling in the world. Only 6 countries in Europe recycle more than the US.

The US has developed the first system to capture Methane from land fills and use it for cooking gas and fuel to power transportation.

yuehan: That's a ridiculous statement. Take a look at your own stuff, get rid of everything that's made in China, most probably you'll be naked in an empty house. First you make China the factory of the world and then you blame them for all that goes wrong on the planet. Take a look at your own system, if everyone on the globe will start driving big cars with five liter engines like in the U.S., now that will have some impact wouldn't you think.

I don't hate americans, however the shoe fits so most oil producing arab states, including iran, few south american countries and others a no longer accepting us$ based settlements, half the world population think gold standard is returning.
"History has proven that 100% of fiat currencies have failed the test of time. The average life span of a fiat currency is 40-50 years. With the US dollar now in it’s 44th year it makes you wonder if the end of the greenback is near...
In the first two weeks, April of 2015 alone JP Morgan purchased a whopping 8,300,000 ounces of silver.

JP Morgan currently holds over 55,690,000 ounces of silver and that number continues to grow."!

A report from Bloomberg Intelligence suggests that as of today, China’s reserves exceed 3,510 tonnes, which is three times the figure reported in 2009. That would give China the second largest gold reserve, next to the United States.

this is true , not because they have no trust in the yanky dollar as their populations know which way the wind blows on the matter , but the governments don't like the USA's policy's , sometimes directed against those same governments but not always .

I have seen more than one thread from the OP that censors Rusia, China, and other countries but he refuses to see other side (s) of it.

Perhaps, he can not.
Perhaps, he chooses not to.

Myself, I hate not one and that includes Americans yet I do disapprove of Usa’s exterior policy as well as I disapprove of some of my country's domestic and exterior policies.

For the record I do belong to a civic group (I used to be an active member of two civic groups) and we do criticize, oppose and propose some solutions to whatever we do disapprove of, everything with not-violence and everything legal.

As for the subject of the thread, refering to an explosion in China and labeling it as a threat to humanity, I am asking the OP

What would your reference point be? for such a claim.

What parameters are to be considered to mark an event as a threat to humanity?

As a result, the U.S. created the Dawes Plan, by which the U.S. guaranteed it would loan Germany money and help reorganize its finances. In 1929, the U.S. approved the Young Plan, which reduced German debts and set up an international bank for collection. However, by the 1930s, the Great Depression was worldwide, and all debts were eventually defaulted or cancelled.

It was believed that initially the Allies suggested that Germany owed up to $320 billion in filed reparation claims -- a total, which they shortly realized couldn't be fulfilled by Germany at the time, especially with the added World War I debt.
At the conference on German External Debts, in London, 1952, Germany's post-war debts were written down to just under 7 billion deutschemarks (worth about $3 billion at today's currency rates) from 16.2 billion deutschemarks, whilst its pre-war debts were reduced to 7.3 billion deutschemarks,

The London Debt Agreement covered a number of different types of German debt from before and after the Second World War. Some of them arose directly out of the efforts to finance the reparations system, while others reflect extensive lending, mostly by U.S. investors to German firms and governments.

The parties that were involved besides West Germany included Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Greece, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Pakistan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, the United States, Yugoslavia and others. The states of the Eastern Bloc were not involved. The negotiations lasted from February 27 to August 8, 1953.

The total under negotiation was 16 billion marks of debt resulting from the Treaty of Versailles after World War I which had not been paid in the 1930s, but which Germany decided to repay to restore its reputation. This money was owed to government and private banks in the U.S., France and Britain. Another 16 billion marks represented postwar loans by the U.S.

The Marshall Plan (officially the European Recovery Program, ERP) was an American initiative to aid Europe, in which the United States gave $13 billion (approximately $130 billion in current dollar value as of August 2015) in economic support to help rebuild European economies after the end of World War II. The plan was in operation for four years beginning in April 1948. The goals of the United States were to rebuild war-devastated regions, remove trade barriers, modernize industry, make Europe prosperous again, and prevent the spread of communism
