First you make China the factory of the world and then you blame them for all that goes wrong on the planet. Take a look at your own system, if everyone on the globe will start driving big cars with five liter engines like in the U.S., now that will have some impact wouldn't you think.
There is a lot of truth in what you say, but not all Americans drive big SUV's or cars with big V8's. I don't generally associate with those types being more a small car fan. I've never been into big cars. I currently have a 99 Nissan Altima 2.0 liter and a 94 Mazda Miata 1.8 liter.Do I buy Chinese goods? What choice do I have?

Our policy of having outsourced all our technological and electronic jobs are evidenced by the avoidance of enormous burden and tax levy from the manufacturers/owners of these factories.
Yet our record of expense up to 7 billion dollars a year and going up is what we incur in implementing all the rules to save our environment.
Now personally the Chinese don't impose any penalty as we do when it comes to clean up or in compliance with our measures for environmental protection.

The other day the Chinese owner of a Chinese restaurant cautioned me on using their chopsticks. He said they are made from bamboo grown in China, stressing they were probably grown in areas having outrageous surface water pollution issues.

Why not just go a step further and give all countries a shot at the big red button? Then it would get very interesting.Solving a problem with a bigger problem has yet to prove a viable solution, unless we're going after a cascade effect of global magnitude.

How much time have you spent in the US lately? I drive a 1.6 liter engine Honda and Honda and Toyota are 2 of our largest auto companies here. We do have trucks and a handful of auto models with 3+ liters. We also have BiFuel cars, CNG, EVs and Ethanol and multi fuel cars. One thing we do need to do is to begin manufacturing cars that can readily be converted by the owner or the dealer at time of purchase at no cost, to run on multi fuel. Due to the engineering of newer engines, even the larger engines have increased fuel efficiency noticeably.Cars in the US in some cities that do not meet pollution standards must be checked annually for emissions control and all cars by law must have a catalytic converter.
We did not make China the factory of the world, no one did. China's government is responsible for their own choices, including the choice to not let us help them become more environmentally friendly.
If there are world wide business interests that take advantage of lax laws in some countries that is not good of course, but those countries need to change their laws. IDK that I agree with everything ooby said, I 'd have to re read the OP, but China's record on pollution is not the best

The USA,s population is about 5% of the world, but it uses 20% of the worlds energy and creates 40% of the worlds waste.It is not just the USA. The west as a whole has cleaned up its act but a large part of the cleaning up has been to transfer factories and industries to some of the poorer nations who are desperate for the work but do not have the infrastructure to deal with the pollutants they are creating.
It is easy as a westerner to be smug but we have just transferred a lot of our previous problems.
