This speaks of gloom and doom for everyone! I better run out and fry and find replacement batteries for my old handheld 2-meter ham radio so I can at least make simplex calls when I need to order a pizza delivery.

Therein lies a gotcha. U.S. Phone companies want to drop residential land-line phone service because most people in the states just use cellular with unlimited voice etc.

That would stop the arrogant rude ill-bred young generation of Puss heads from Shouting into them near me in hospital when I have to attend out patients, my friends and I in a Restaurant or in shops where the management asks for them to be turned off and they ignore it. - Scum !!

I don t have a cell phone, and don't care for one, my reasoning, is I ve had too, too many close calls driving ,that involve other drivers either texting, or talking on their cell phones,
They don t pay attention to their driving. I will not be like that.
I think texting has caused the younger generation to forget to use the words please, and thank you,
I also think a good number of people have given their loyalty, and work ethic to the cell phone ,instead of their employers and parents,
Too many people say how did we survive without cell phones
We survived, and I think we were more innovated, and happier doing it,

Hey, I just want to share my opinion on this. This kind of thing has happened too too many times to me as well, but since any such similar close call wasn't my fault, I still have a cell phone to use (while not driving.)
I think that cell phone usage should be banned for people while they are driving a motor vehicle. This ban can easily be enforced by large penalties if cell phone company's records show that the driver was using a cell phone if/when an accident occurs (voice, data, txt). exclusions to the ban would include navigation based apps operating on a cell phone.
