I am using google picasa version 3.9.0 build 136.12.0, to resize my images and i find the export function sorts files sizes really well. There are others ways of doing it but picasa is good i think. Its important to look at they type of file your camera is producing and important to keep file size to a reasonable size otherwise forum page would take ages to load, most people likely find this thread takes quite a bit first time they access but then not quite so bad after the first (at least for a while) then your hard drive size could be another important reason to manage image sizes. A professional photographer probably holds onto RAW files.
As i explained earlier I don't as they take up far to much space.
At your own risk you could download picasa version 3.9.0 build 136.12.0 version from this site:
The later picasa versions no longer work.
