Bearwoman: Hello rohann I'm game.
Hurray! I got a "hit"! I am in the very early process of getting a cat. He is not born yet; I'm talking with a lady in this area who thinks she may have a pregnant queen. (The litter will be Maine-Coon/Persian). I want to be involved at the beginning, to bond/imprint with the kitten at about 4 weeks, which is highly recommended. Do you know about this? Do you think, as some vets do, that it increases the probability of the kitten/cat being friendlier, more social, more "cuddly"? I can't hardly wait--I am feeling "younger" already at the excitement of having this in my life. Your thoughts? Names? Are you a cat person? Tell me everything you know!! hug cats meow

...sorry, I am just SO stoked about this!!

It's actually done, much like the Pomeranian dog getting a "Teddy-Bear" cut. Most of the time a groomer should do it, is what I hear.

I'm not a cat owner but I'm mainly been a dog owner but since from my childhood days was always around may different pets.

I would think the more time you spend with puppies or cats from the time they are a wee one ( with the owner of said mother cat)that I can't see a problem with you bonding early on with that particular baby kitten.I would consider it getting the kitten used to your smell and the way you hand said kitten too.I think that it is a good way to bond.

I love cats...I love animals..I've had dogs all my life..also Working with horses but in the last few years I've started to have cats as I am fascinated by the feline species.love

Cats are very independent creatures and are free spirits.

The cats I've had I had them at about 2 month old kittens and they were very friendly.

My first one was wild..brought up in a back yard with his mother and the whole litter and no human contact.
But...he was the only one who came to me and the bond was instantaneous.

It's all a matter of energy because cats are very sensitive and perceptive. They can feel things that humans cannot.

I own a 12-year-old black granny. laugh She chose me. smile I went to see the kittens of the friend of my mother's and one small black kitten jumped into my lap and then climbed to my shoulder and fell asleep there. And - so I had to take her! smitten She has always been very cuddly, but - at the same time - had a strong temper! There were times that I thought I kept a mini-panther. laugh

Every animal has a personality, just like humans do. smile When you take a kitten - you never know what kind of a cat personality (s)he will have in the future. So, you have to accept it the way (s)he is. smile

My Medolina is a female, although neutered and she is much more 'cuddly' than my previous cat Misha, who was a Siamese cat. He was a great hunter and although both him and Medolina never left home (I live in a flat and don't have a garden) - he caught several birds on the balcony and took them home! uh oh He also used to catch bugs and several times he brought them to my bed. crying Medolina, on the other hand, was always scared of other creatures and never caught anything in her life. blues Although a Siamese cat, Misha was much more mild-tempered, but not so cuddly as Medolina.

I really envy you! I wish I had a kitten again! smitten But, it's not possible at the moment...

I have three all rescue, William, jasper and petite pois. All three are different personalities but each insists on at least a half hour cuddle every day normally at inappropriate times. They never shut up, wrecked my furniture bring live mice as presents to me in bed but the love they give outweighs every thing.

That's also a good thing to mention to new owners - the cat will probably ruin your furniture. laugh They say that there are some sprays you can use on furniture that repels cats, but I haven't used it and I don't know if it actually works. All my beds, sofas and armchairs are - more or less - ruined. laugh I'm sometimes ashamed when the guests come, but - what can one do? dunno laugh

Also - cat hair is everywhere. You can find it in the most impossible places. Sometimes I wonder how many I have eaten during my life... confused laugh

It's also very easy to teach a cat to use a litter box. Usually you need to show him/her just once - they learn very fast. smile

Some want to use the hole in the shower and that can be very useful, because you don't have to have litter trays at all. None of mine has ever wanted to do that, however.

I've seen videos of some who even wanted to use the toilet - just like humans! wow

Mine wants to drink water only if I leave the bowl with it in the bathroom. If I leave it in the kitchen or anywhere else - she goes to the bathroom and meows until I bring the water there. dunno
