mykingdomforanam: That's sad. Who you are... shouldn't be defined by anybody but you.

After seeing my loved ones misunderstand my motives so badly, I learned not to care about what anyone says about me at all.

It doesn't stop me from loving, just from a need to validate myself in another's eyes. That's freedom.
Sad? Where did I say it defines who I am?
But if people have something to say about me I'd listen carefully...because there's a chance I am not doing everything as perfect as I may believe I do...

I suppose w all make the mistake of thinking that people think like us, i think i am a loving and thoughtful person something happens between those thought and my typing hand.

Fortunately people who know me know the truthgrin

pKrema: I'd worry very much if nothing people say about me doesn't bother me all...
If you are immune to what people say about you, you're not learning much from your peers. People who say they 'don't care what people say about me' are exhibiting defensiveness and inflexibility. Of course OPO's matter, we are social animals, we have to get along or exist in bloody-minded isolation.

Do what you think is right for you and others that you encounter.
Or are you put off/ offended by what others think or say about you.

I will ask politely ,if you would refrain from negative,/ insulting comments.
Thank you in advance!

Somebody on here once said "I'm here for a good time, not a long time"....
I buy that, I do my thing here, it works and it doesn't, but it costs and pays nothing, it's a way to pass time...
I doubt very much if my input here is anything more than words on a screen, fun in the moment, but chip wrapping the next day, as is anything that's not 'life or death'...
Let's say I dance to a different drum here than to the real world, where others pay me to dance to their tune....

I was talking in general and not just on here.
Because on here we don't really know the people
or their intentions towards us , when giving an opinion,
it might be genuine, it might not.
It might be a comment ,just to annoy or cause friction, we don't know.hug

The amount of lonely, miserable people who flood the dating sites and never shut up how happy they actually are is a serious sign of how much we have lost touch with other human beings...and our own selves...

I would suggest we do know those we communicate with here... I have never met you Anna, but I have a very good idea of who you are by what you write, and it's because of what you write, I can tell we would get along in the real world, and that's just from comments...
I believe we are what we write, particularly on the forums, we all have 'our thing'... You'd know the joker, the politico, the pamphleteer, the social conscience, the whacky, the thoughtful, the mixer upper by their topics and free text, more than ever you would from a personal profile... Our drum and our tune is already up, we are already dancing to it.... Sometimes you have to turn the record over, and clean out the groves in case the needle jumps, but aside from that I'd say, business as usual...

Hi, Anna … wave

When I'm on my own time, I do. When I'm on others time (school, work, etc.), there are rules, regulations, policies, protocol, and the like, to abide by.

For those that mean anything to me, I may care what they think/say about me. There are times when I might need someone to put me "in check" … And if I care about you and you care about me, I consider that.

There's always a time and a place when marching to the beat of your own drum is appropriate, or not.

I like to think I do.
The older I get the more important it is to just be yourself....and even more important to just BE.....not to try so hard to fit in...not try so hard to worry about what others think about what you do ..that's an ongoing learning experience.
But I try to be mindful a lot more or who I am talking to as some can handle my gobby mouth and others can't....laugh

But I am light and darkness ....as every one is and I'm finally learning to accept and live with both....that's more important to me.

You're wrong; and in spite of the philosophy you're expounding, you missed an opportunity to learn from a person with a different opinion.

After seeing your inflexible attitude, I doubt you'll learn anything from an opinion that doesn't agree with you...

It looks like you've left enough room in your post, to be open to the view, that, maybe you pay too much attention to other people's opinions?
