If I ever decide to meet anyone online again (either for friendship or something more) I intend to skip the typing part completely (messaging, e-mailing, chatting) and get right into - at least - a phone call, but preferably a video call. I think that it's a more natural way to meet people, the closest there is to real life and after all - the worst that can happen to me is to see some naked man jumping in front of the camera.

I prefer an app that shows when you are in the neighbourhood of someone who is single and could be a positive match. Then we don't have to search.

we had the IM function here , it was direct messaging and i think at some point a video option was available too - but it seems there were some complains made...on my account What's your preference on this subject?

According to my experiences so far - the more you type, chat, exchange e-mails (just written words) - the more you get entangled into your own imagination. The chances that you will get disappointed later get higher and higher the more you fall in love with the image you created based only on the written words and photos. I think that it's far better not to allow yourself to reach that stage. After chatting for a couple of days (enough to determine that you would like to get to know someone better) you should move to the video chat - if you are far away. If you live in the vicinity, you can meet in person even after several messages.In the past I met some people from the forums (not this one) I'd never seen before and hadn't even exchanged private messages with. We only "met" on various forum discussions and chat threads. They were coming to my town or I was coming to theirs and they sent me a message with a telephone number telling me that they would like to meet me if I was interested. I met the best people that way.

Looks really aren’t important so it’s more about if they can hold a conversation.
I like to text with some phone calls, used to just text but found I was wasting a lot of time on the wrong people .
