Should dogs live in apartments? (80)

I'm still having concerns about this 
Someone I know adopted a young shelter dog a few weeks back and yesterday was out socialising for 8-9 hours, the dog contained in the apartment during this time.
Owner returned to find the stair carpet ripped away from the wall; my thoughts are that the dog was stressed/anxious/bored and that this was way too long to leave the dog alone, considering its age, unknown background and settling into new environment.
I personally feel it's too long for any dog that has no access to the outdoors.

To. Own a dog.one must have a large ranch. Say a mile all round. For him/her to play in. Short of this buy. A budgie. 
I had a miniature poodle named Lucky Boy who lived in 2 apartments with me. Traveled between NY and Colorado several times by car too.

Same criteria also applies to humans but for either evolution oe devolution, as the individual case pertains, we have a choice mostly dependant upon income as to our individual domiciles; our animals do not and thus their well being primarily depends upon us as do our children. If we are fortunate circumstances will operate in tandem to the better prospects for all concerned.

A Newfoundland dog can weigh as much as 150 pounds. It doesn't need much room so an apartment is fine for it. I had one and he was a lazy dog but did like to go for walks.
A Jack Russell Terrier is a small dog wouldn't be happy in an apartment because it needs a lot of room to run around constantly. Even a house is small for this pup but if there's a backyard he will run and run.
What matters isn't whether it's an apartment or a house. It's the breed of the dog and his normal lifestyle that matters where he lives.

That is a Newfoundland a very gentle sweet dog. That picture in #80 is kinda scruffy. Here's a better one what they always look like. In fact he looks like the dog I had.
