Last Oct., I was deemed by my doctor as disabled due to Spinal Chord Stenosis. I applied for disability benefits. Today my claim was turned down. I have been told that here in Ontario, they automatically reject 90% of claims, (hoping you'll go away) yet at the same time they offer a free lawyer to appeal your claim. Governments, for the people ? WTF ?

Happens here also - they reject them all at first - my brother had to seek counsel also - not free tho.... - he finally got his disability after over a year. Personally think the govt and the lawyers are in cahoots - none of em work for free here! Good luck to you - hope you get good legal help and the wait isn't as long.hug

No judgments need be made. I once earned $90,000.00 a year, but life happens and throws you a left curve. Now I'm at the mercy of the government.

Mr. Paws,

I don't know what your system is like, but I know here many people with seriously compelling needs have to apply and reapply at least three times. APPEAL!!!!

Our goverment is the same my daughter is disabled I had to appeal to get her benifits but what really annoys me is every couple of years you have to go through it all again and refill in stupid forms the size off books! My daughter was born with Downs Syndrome in two years time she'll still have Downs Syndrome why can they not see that?

Wish you all the best gentle paws don't let them get you down.

90% of the time...the first attempt will be denied(I don't know why)as here in Ala...and sure most other places. I happen to be one of the lucky ones(I guess w/triple bypass, and diabetic)mine went through the 1st try(did the paper work myself). There is an ad here local on TV...from an attorney...that say 90% of the reason people don't get approved, is because they give up, and not reapply/appeal their case. Give it another try with a lawyer...you worked for it, you deserve it.

Mr. Paws,

I've been dealing with some of this myself lately. Not disability, but life insurance, health insurance, pension plans, social security, etc. With the single exception of social security, every damn company I've dealt with has failed miserably. I have had to write and re-write, send certified mail, call, fax, re-fax, etc.... just to get them to honor THEIR commitments. It's frustrating as all get out - but I've won every battle so far.

DO NOT give up. Just create a good paper trail and follow their instructions... over and over and over again. Keep at it. If there is a legal precedence for your disability, you SHOULD be able to get it!

Rots of Ruck!

Paws

i have done that process couples of years ago

you should find yourself a good doctor to have the disability benifits it can last up to to 4 years before being accepted. if the doctor wrote on your paper that you can do little thing suckh as Taking the city busses without a problem or take your bath without help ect... you'll have to forget it.

My uncle had a heart attach and his medical condition was really severe and he was reject and they forced him to look for a job at the eyes of the gouvernement he wasn't disable at all.
anyways he died 3 years ago but now i hate so much the ontario work for that or Welfare

My mom was lucky because she was on the disability benifits way before they applied a stupid law in 1995 i think that was the year
She never had problem the only thing is she didn't received much i think she had 1,001.00$ each month to live on and that wasn't enought because she had to buy special food and her needles for her diabeties when the friggin gouvernement buy seringe for junkies very mad To stay alive my mom had to buy those seringe and buy less food.

but for now you can applied for your old age pension and have a certain % of it before you reach 65 years old
and you can also applied for your Canada Pension Plan (C.P.P)
if it's less then 5 year ago you had quit your job due to sickness.

wish you the best of luck!teddybear

That's the way it is here in Bama, you get denied 2 to 4 times at first then they start, then it takes about another 2 years or so, then if you get it you get all your back pay. Hang in there Mr.Paws we will all be with you.hug

Same here in the US, Paws. We had to fight for my former wifes disability. Among other problems, she was blind in one eye, the judge said that under Florida law, she could still drive! I was thrown out of the hearing, when I yelled"...let her drive YOUR car", at the judge!!

It has never been about the people Leo. Like I have said many times on this forum, if they call it democracy why do we have to fear the people we elect? Only the squeaky wheels get grease, so if you want something you had better get sqeaky. Goos luck.

I am sorry to hear that Paws..I go through it every year with my daughter..She has a disability also and I have to fill out the forms every year and say the same thing. I told them nothing has changed in 7 years and I don't expect it to change in the next 7 years. The Government are sticky people to deal with..
