the beholder

it's in the eye, we do imply
oft too fleeting, a vision goes by

it's in the ear, too faintly hear
the cricket's chirping legs so near

it's in the nose, a breathless scent
proboscis laden with pheromone intent

it's on the tongue, a choice taste
subtle or strong, the taste buds baste

it's right next to a finger's touch
tactile impulse can sense so much

beholder's heart ascertains its care
the senses sense life's love affair

life, it's all our experience taken in
pains and pleasures, from where we've been
