whetting of man's nature

it's been decided now
the fields have been parched
and the forests laid low
we must make sacrifices now
to effect a change today
therefore blood must be spilt.

so prepare your arms and
bare your chests wide.
begin in your amygdala
and find the basest emotion.
fear and hate unreasonable
instinct ranks understanding.

long steel directs emotion that
drone planes cannot feel.
reveal yourself with whetted
desire to wash soiled layers
of field and forest with
the blood of others regardless

of merit or worth or need.
the consolation of philosophy
has no place on this road.
there is no toll of penance
here at the gate of incivility.

peace being passé, keen to kill
as anarchy reigns deep within
the fascination of termination,
red red red fills the souls,
headlines cry out depravity.
hear the cries of the dying.

yet in time, peace will return
to each, and even to nations.
dug up bones will be reburied
after careful consideration
and a wrenching forgiveness.

season follows season and
time and purpose may...may
be accepted if not understood.
Man has his appointed cycle
of seasons and vicissitudes
beyond our own tender love.

While reading this incredible piece, I couldn't help but think of the movie 'Brave Heart' with Mel Gibson. Sounds like the sort of stuff 'manhood' was once made of!!

Awesome, Deep, Spiritual, Challenging, Awakening! Great write Goodguy!!!

You made it clear in this poem that all sacrifices made for humanity's sake and for whatever other reasons conceivable, bring about even more sacrifices, and this is a vicious circle, for nothing is more precious that human life, which it is taken nevertheless for saving some other human's life. Is there any way of making reasonable decisions without taking people's lives, do we pay them for aggravating situation even more?!

GG...you have that certain style at times...a poetic quality that certainly makes one think. Human nature is as it is and not always the most gratifying. One always has to hope that after time "bones will be reburied" and a "wrenching forgiveness" will follow. cheers

Hi Dave

This is one of those poems that merit being read time and time again - and should be written in 36 point type and placed on the desk of every world leader on the planet...

Congratulations on a really great write expounding a philosophy that all should be counselled to follow...

Best wishes

Bill handshake cheers

Hi, agoodguy2have,
Such a powerful write. The lines referenced by Earlgreytea got my attention, as well. I, for one, am ready for peace to be in season and want nothing to be beyond our own tender love's ability to make it so.
