It is not because you are beautiful Or that look I see within your eyes Or the height of every wistful willow That reaches so far unto the skies It is not because the world goes round And all the seas lap around your toes Or the merry go round that makes you smile Or that lovely crinkle you have in your nose It is not because you walk with grace And blades of grass bow to your wake And every mighty mountain trembles From the soft footsteps that you take It is not because the snows will melt From the pure radiance of your glow Or the hunger of the parched Serengeti Will bleed anew as you make rivers flow It is not because you are beautiful That the Sun shines down every day And every blade of grass that is cut Turns into the most glorious yellow hay It is not because the world goes round That makes life every brand new day It is just because You are you

About this poem:
It is more about friendship, true friendship is nice to have, especially for a mainly loner like me.
How can I add to these other lovely comments? 'It is not because' I can't, just that I shouldn't touch something precious. Reminds me of Neruda.

Everyone have specific and different qualities, that make us unique. Is not easy to see inside people but when we can do that, we could find what they really are.
To feel the real love for other, as friends or lovers, is necessary to be able to see the essence of people, so we could accept and love other as they are, original and unique. As Jesus loves us.

So glad you brought this poem up, Vyoleta! (otherwise I would have prob. missed it)
Beautiful write, Rob... every line is wonderful, as is the meaning, and the subject- true friendship.
The line that caught my attention the very most(as all of them caught my attention) is this:
'And every blade of grass that is cut Turns into the most glorious yellow hay'...
that is the most beautiful way to view cut grass I've ever seen- even literally (maybe it's b/c I spent lots of time this summer mowing the grass, both here in the UK & in the U.S. this summer mowing it for my dad... I didn't really care to see the cut-off pieces turn yellow-lol, though the lawn/garden looked great... but now I see it in a whole new light... plus a 2nd new light in light of this being about friendship )
Beautiful poem... what a fantastic and very apt description of true friendship
"It is just because you are you." why I am surprise my this poem. Beautiful, touching, insightful and not what I would expect from you Rob. I enjoyed it immensely and I got to read another side of you.
A magnificent complement/ode to someone who is highly treasured! Liked "the parched Serengeti will bleed anew as you make rivers flow"...all things are possible...."just because you are you." Meant as friendship or romantic love...this is straight from the heart and beautiful!
