fledgling
fledgling sits on the edge of a branch
afraid to give itself a chance
to drop gravely into the air
steal away to take the dare
the branch is slowly swaying
while the fledgling is weighing
the pros and cons and more besides
in an updraft above a raptor glides
gripping with tight apprehension
fledgling wants to avoid attention
of the ripping forces winged about
fear makes him full with self doubt
trying to muster courage to wing
and finally cut it's apron string
the inexperienced youth headlong rises
to winged adventures and new surprises

to reach as high and strive as high
as we can. Just do it with caution...TY
stands the last lone hope of mothers nest
it's siblings have taken ultimate leap
eyes peer about, it's wings yet to wrest
itself far away in uncertain flight
still fed from a beak of others on high
wings flap in repeated burgeoning motion
mom and dad decry usherings to try
in a final push, for were nature born
fledgling casts off, its' feathers grown
has left it's home for a place far beyond
as so many before, to grace the unknown
really nice write good guy....I hope you don't mind that I played with this a little...I needed a distraction.thanks
