100-foot Putt

One hundred feet, uphill
putt confidently made to approach near
the waiting spot, shallow.

How is it that some can aim
and make that shot
sinking into happiness

against impossible odds
while I
with what some call a clear shot

miss the mark completely.
Oh, Nicklaus, teach me
how to stroke the ball.

GNJ: what a wonderful expression of longing for club nirvana. You definitely sunk this birdie...maybe even eagle! ;-)

Hi, agoodguy2have, fjamesj9701, and cambuff,
Why, certainly, this is about golf (I added a couple of links under About this poem). Glad you enjoyed the poem and have an even greater appreciation for golf!

Hi, hedistuff,
Was at the driving range last week with an out-of-town friend and do think no direction is easy! I was amazed that Nicklaus could make it look so. What started out as a poem about his "lucky" accomplishment became a metaphor for life.

Nice double meaning that I completely relate to.

Dear Massachusetts, you a poor putter? Why, forsooth!!! In life you can extrapolate the putt and be a 'great golfer', in a million different ways, after all, how many inimitable, iressitible, unfathomable talented Massachusetts' are there? nay, never sell yourself short, my friend, go out and make of life a golf course, and then see how great a putter you already are...

Hi, Earlgreytea and Ladybee42,
"Why, forsooth!!!" It is so; but, hopefully, I am " good at other stuff". Love and Light to you both!

i organize a golf outing every year for my work...and watch the guests play all day (i have no interest in it myself and had NO idea what a bloody mulligan even was!) and have seen some AMAZING shots...and have almost been run through with a few, too! laugh
talents are unpredictable like that, aren't they? practice, practice, PRACTICE! grin cheers

Hi, Gashly,
Since I don't see that much "practice, practice, PRACTICE!" in my future, I think I'll keep my day job! Thank you for your comments!
