Minimum Wage

What if there was a worldwide minimum wage of 15 dollars an hour?
What would someone in Vietnam or China make in a year?
So let's multiply it out
15 hour work day times seven days a week equals 105 hours
Let's say they also get time and a half after 40 hours
So the first 40 hours would equal 600 dollars
The next 65 hours would equal 1,462.5 dollars
Add them together and you get 2,062.5 dollars
Multiply that out times 52 weeks and you get 107,250 dollars
What do they get now?
It's around a dollar an hour with no overtime
So they get 105 dollars a week and 5,460 dollars a year
Where does the 101,790 dollars a week go?
What do the owners of these companies do with all that money?
How much do you really need to be comfortable at their expense?
When is Michael Jordan going to go to Nike and demand good pay?
Probably not too soon as he just became a billionaire this year
Off of shoes made by neglected workers making a dollar an hour

About this poem:
I was listening to a cd book by Glenn Beck and had to go to a different cd that didn't deal with the minimum wage debate. Are there employers out there that believe as I do that workers should be properly taken care of?

Job Rap

Toasting a bun
Making a pickle run
Could you please
Get me more cheese
They need this today so
Get me more mayo
I got to be careful with the blade so
I'm slicing a tomato
Don't cook that patty too long underneath
Or the old lady will be saying where's the beef?
I'm not getting rich
Cause I'm making a sandwich
Fast food fast food
I'm in the mood
For more and more food
Fast food fast food
Forget about that diet so
I'll make it a combo
Fries Fries
Gotta get more ketchup
Don't forget the soda
I'm eating in my Toyota

About this poem:
I used to work at Hardee's from 1988- 1993. I was so disgusted with the job and the low pay I didn't even give a two week notice. I just walked in and placed my uniforms on the counter and left. The average fast food worker will stay on for about four months. I stayed four years and four months.

Flare Side

America the beautiful
Yeah
Let me introduce yall to the flare side
Julie was a loving wife
Had her husbands name on her neck
Death took him away
But a new man came to play
He went to jail
Something about drugs and a bar brawl
Now will it be 2016 or 2020 when she will have him all?
Dodododododo
Ha!
Then there was Bob
Been gone since Thanksgiving of 14
He was a fun guy to be around
You know what I mean?
But he loved smoking the jay
His attendance record was too spotty
That's what the management had to say
So after a year of good work they made him go away
His girlfriend got a job right in the department he used to work
He decided to be a jerk
I'll stay home for a year while she works
He had it all figured out
Then she met another guy at work
And then she moved out
This is what can happen for those who chose to walk on the flare side
dodododododododo
Ha!
Michael had everything going for him
A good wife a good life
A baby boy on the way any day
But he was worried he couldn't get hired on
And his good wife was in jail
So he missed a lot of work and caught hell
From the management
So he applied for another job and got an interview
But HR wouldn't give him a day to go
So he split that day back in January
I still don't know where he ended up
And this is how it is on the flare side

Prison Life

Here there is no privacy
Here there is no safety
Here there is pain
Here there is fear
The Noise, The Noise, the Noise!
Clang, Clang!
Bang! Bang!
Shouting and Shouting
Frustration
My head is on fire with rage
My body is on fire with discomfort
I feel it in my feet
I feel it in my hands
My eyes seeing the evil
My soul feeling like it's rotting inside of me
Yeah
It really feels like a prison at work

Daydream

When I'm at work
I close my eyes
When I feel pain
From other guys
Whenever I want to
All I have to do is daydream
Day dream dream dream
Dream dream
I can make her mine
Kiss her lips of wine
Any time night or day
Only trouble is
Gee wiz
I'm dreaming my life away
Dream dream day dream

About this poem:
Took me about 10 minutes to write down all the years of hire at my job. It seems kind of ironic that the two biggest hire years are the ones I got hired on. I was hired in 2007 and let go in 2008. Then hired on again in 2013.

TRY, TRY, TRY, AGAIN! TO EARN SUCCESS.

ARE YOU TREKING DOWN A ROAD WITH NO END IN SIGHT?
TRY, TRY, TRY, AGAIN!
DOES THE TIME SEEM TO TICK AGAINST YOU?
THAT YOU ONLY WISH THAT THE CLOCK CAN PAUSE FOR A MOMENT, THAT YOU MAY HEAVE A SIGH OF RELIEVE ?
TRY, TRY, TRY, TO KEEP THE BALL ROLLING AGAIN!
DO YOUR CHALLENGES WEIGH YOU DOWN?
TRY,TRY, TRY USING THE COURAGE OF A WOUNDED LION TO PUT UP A GOOD FIGHT!
ARE YOU ENTANGLED WITH THE TWIST AND TURNS OF LIFE AS THOUGH YOUR BREATH FADES AWAY?
THEN KNOW, THAT THE GLORIOUS MOMENT OF SUCCESS HAS COME, SO CLOSE, AS AIR TO YOUR NOSTRILS,
PATIENTLY CALLING !
FEEL IT, CRAB IT, USE IT

WELCOME COME IN

Quick pace running
back & forth not
knowing which
way to go.
Customers passing by.
Sales clerk saying hi
have a great day.
Making sure this place
is friendly for all.
Wanting them to shop here.
To see my friendly face.
now go about your business
& say to the customers
have a blessed day.
Try each day to show your
gratitude for this job.
Make your boss see how
wonderful your
work effort can be.
Do above and beyond.
Be all that you can be.
Make your boss happy.
