John Wayne (Limerick)

John Wayne was a giant of the Western
The Searchers, True Grit, and Rooster Cogburn
He won the gunfights
He loved Miss Goodnight
And always proved that he was the best-durn!

I know I'm Not perfect

I'm not good at writing poetry, you already know
But I'll try my best because I want to show
to you how much I love you how much I care
if only you could feel the love that we share

I know the distance is what keeps us apart
but it won't get me down ,you're always in my heart
it's something that together we will face
until we can feel each other's embrace

Sometimes I feel insecure and alone, you do too
but I won't show you I won't tell you
I just keep it to myself ,prefer to hold it in
It's weird but it's like you're under my skin

If you ever need someone to talk to
just know i will always be here for you
we both know that with me you belong
can't wait till you come, say it won't be long

I know I'm Not perfect and that I will never be
I don't search for perfection, just want you to see
that you're all I need,everything I was looking for
therefore I Can only pray that we'll both stay strong

Quiet ~Storm

---- IMAGE REMOVED because photobucket.com no longer allows embedded images ----

Gentle as the breeze that blows
And sends the fields of daffodils
off to bow their weary heads
like fallen soldiers in the wind..

As subtle as the cloudy sky
That gently raises the home made kite
And blows ever so softly giving way,
Allowing it to take flight,

As calming as the setting sun.,
We sit and watch when the day is done..
As peaceful as the summer rain..
As it falls from a pale grey, sky.

As welcoming as the the Springtime is ,
Signalling that all life shall again begin,
And when you drink in all these things,
Then comes the Quiet storm.

And there may be lightening, and assuredly
There will be rain..
And sometimes the wind will howl and moan,
And just as suddenly all will be calm again..

And the next day when you awaken,
In the very early morn..
Drink in the sunny vibrant hues of red, yellow and blue,
That is the beauty of the Quiet Storm.

A Prayer For Poetry Corner And Friends

It's my joy in life to find
At every turning of the road;
The strong arm of comrades kind,
To help me onward with my load.

And since I have no gold to give
And love alone must make amends;
My only prayer is while I live,
God make me worthy of my friends.

Mystery

It’s amazing you know
How long my body has remained
Such a mystery to me
I had a heart once
But it bled to death
Eyes that once saw
As clear as a bell
(Why do they say that?)
Are now blurred and raw
Skin that was smooth
Hangs like wrinkled washing
And my eyebrows have decided
To have a mind of their own
Whilst my head goes on thinning
My ears have new growth
My nose is getting bigger
(I suppose it’s a thirst for knowledge?)
And my hands
That never seemed to frown
Are gloriously speckled brown
I remember the days
When I was six foot two
And my feet had size nine shoes
Now a size eight slipper will do
I shall not talk about teeth
For we have parted our ways
And the magnificent browns
Have all turned to greys
But I will soldier on
Though I think my rifle is empty
Still nothing to fire at
When the browns turn to greys

Twin Towers - A Tale of Two Rails

Underneath two of the tallest buildings in the world
We were a part of an extensive piece of rail
People coming and going – busy everyday
We were proud to be part of the world trade

It started out as a beautiful September day
The sky was blue and clear – not grey
Suddenly there was a tremendous roar
Then an explosion that shook every floor

The sound of the fire was deafening and loud
People were running down the stairs and out
Meanwhile firemen and policemen came in
Heroically risking their lives for all those within

Suddenly another roar hit the second one
Both were burning with heat hot as the sun
We saw horrible sights and will never forget
Terrorists had hijacked and hit them with 2 jets

Suddenly the Twin Towers caved in – all the floors
We were buried underneath listening in horror
Then there was a deathly quiet for a long time
Until the rescuers came searching through the grime

We were moved to an island and carefully stored
Thinking we were not a part of the towers any more
Sad and lonely we sat for 15 long years
Remembering each year the fear and crying tears

Now we are in the sunshine in this quiet peaceful place
We now sit on top of this beautiful granite base
To remind the visitors who come to never forget
The day that terrorists came and posed a threat

Others have also since loss their lives each day
To keep us safe from terrorists come what may
We are here to say – We will never forget
We were part of the Twin Towers that we represent

About this poem:
9/11/2017 Update: The Memorial is still there with nothing changed. I changed the picture because last year when I took the picture it wasn't completed yet. Now the flag is flying high and proud over the monument! It is now the 16th Anniversary. This event affected me deeply as that is when I started writing poems. I had never written poetry at all or attempted. The emotions in me were so overwhelming that it started to spill out into words as a release of the pressure.

9/11/2016: My town is in the process of erecting a monument to the Twin Towers/World Trade Center, Pentagon and the flight that went down in Pennsylvania. This year is the 15th Anniversary of the attack on 9/11/2001. Highlight of the monument is the two rails that were underneath at Ground Zero. I watched them weld them to the top of the granite stones and became very emotional thinking about what they had been through. There is more going to be done on the monument and I will change the picture when it is completed.

If you are reading this

And God still has a purpose
and a plan for your life !

Learn to Grow where
you are planted !
(from by Jill)

Gods Special Timing -
Never to late, Never too early,
With patience and faith,
It's worth the wait !

There are things in life ,
You may not aquire,
But if you have God
in your life ;
That is the greatest possession
you could ever have !

At the end of the day
you will not remember the person
with the most beautiful face;
But you will remember the person
with the most beautiful
heart and soul !
(from Gwen)

Life must go on no matter
what trials you encounter
in your life ;
God will make a way for you.

And the blessings will follow !
(from Lurds)

To be kind is more important
that to be right,
Many times what people need
is not a brilliant mind that speaks,
But a special heart that listens !
(from Gay)

The Good things in the world
haven't changed,
It's still best to be Honest
and truthful .

what your eyes haven't seen :
Never let your mouth speak,
what your heart doesn't feel !

The Lonely Swan

A beautiful crisp cold night
A night for all lovers everywhere
But everything was not alright
He could not find her anywhere

The love of his entire life was gone
He was lost without her guiding wings
She had left and he was all alone
Without her he no longer felt like a King

Remembering her lovely color of white
The sounds she made when they courted
And as a couple they were a beautiful sight
Their long necks at times looking contorted

Springtime was the most romantic time of all
In the Summer they loved the cool blue water
Then the beautiful colored trees in the Fall
Winter also had a magic as they cuddled closer

He is all alone wondering where his love went
One day she was there and the next gone
He hunted for her until he was spent
Mourning for her - he lived the rest of his life alone

Odyssey poem, Fairy Tale 2

He locked all his stuff in the storage
And went for a journey around the world.
He left no home behind, no family waiting him back,
He travelled from country to country
Many days, many weeks and months
He wanted to see many things, many buildings
He wanted to touch the growing grapes.

He heard of a Siren
That lived on the island Calypso
He wanted to meet her, to hear her song...

And there she was
So light, so pure
He instantly wanted to guard her.
She sang, and her words,
Every sound she made
Were dragging him close to her.

He asked what she wanted from him, maybe help?
-She wanted him to stay.
He felt like he's losing his mind for her
And when she turned her head he ran away.

He ran away, he thought he is safe,
But her song was still in his head.

He kept with his journey
But every morning
He was waking up hearing her song in his head,
Which kept dragging him back to the island Calypso
To Siren that sang.

He tries to forget, to follow his errands,
To live like he lived before
And its too difficult now
After he heard her song.

Sun is wrapping Calypso with light and warmth
Sea is caressing shores in tune

Siren singing through tears
over note he left:
"I will find my way back to you"

your memory sustains me

like the petal of a rose hungry
for the sun's energy
and the mist that sustains
the very food of life
I am...only sated
by your touch and love
by your spirit and soul
perpetually intertwined
in my heart, in my mind
even as
you are gone
somewhere in the horizon
of nothingness
but here within me,
every second, our memory
sustains my will to live
just like the petal
which hungers in the night
but when the new dawn breaks
and the sun rises
with you in my heart
am forever energized
waiting...
