The existence of a soul is a belief, a matter of faith, not a fact. By the way in the case of the telephone you're not actually hearing the persons voice but a reasonable facsimile of it produced mechanically.
And I wonder what the source of this reasonable facsimile might be???
ooby_dooby: Soul? What the hell is a soul? Yes I'm being serious. Only a silver tongue con artist could make someone believe something exists which, Can't be seen Can't be felt Can't be touched Can't be heard Can't be smelled has zero weight, doesn't reflect light, leaves no shadow, produces no heat, makes no sound, has no size or shape.
Religion, the most successful scam on earth. Gullible people will happily detonate high explosives packed on their bodies, so effective is this con job.
There have been a number of claims that studies show a living human who dies weighs slightly less just after the moment of death. This would suggest that something leaves the body. The "scientific experiments" are a little unscientific but its certainly thought provoking.

Criticism
Former FBI profiler, behavioral science expert and MSNBC analyst Clint Van Zandt challenges statements about psychics helping law enforcement arguing, "If psychics were truly successful and if their results were not simply the consequence of trickery (at worse ) or good interviewing skills (at best), then why don't law enforcement agencies have psychic detective squads, a real X-Files Unit, or other ways to integrate these paranormal investigative capabilities?"
Many cases have been solved from leads from psychics, also law enforcement officers usually follow their own hunches, which is a form of psychic power.
I have my heart set on leaving my body to become a spirit when I die. Possibly a guardian angel whizzing around watching out for my sons, friends, & pets safety as I do now in the real world
venere08: HI Conrad, I don't know about your Randy friend ...I can only refer you again, to the published scientific experiments by the University of Arizona. They would have used strict methodology and would not risk their professional integrity. Having results published in peer review journals is no mean feat. In any case, skeptics are labelled that for a reason. They never really intend to seriously consider any position other than their own, no matter what evidence might be brought to bear. Sceptics do not phase me, because I prefer to remain completely open to discovery. Closed mindedness isn't very appealing to me.
Actually the Researcher sayd that he used "Scientific" procedure on some! I think you had better inform yourself to the identity of James Randi, with an "I" not a "Y"! He's sussed out Frauds who fooled trained Scientists!

Oh that's good! You have potential as a stand up comedian Some dude drops dead and there just happens to be a very accurate scale nearby and their first thought is to weigh the dude. OMG please stop your killing me
Maybe that was the weight of his last breath leaving his body?

Actually it makes sense, because many people who are about to die are in a place called a hospital and surrounded by people called doctors and all types of testing equipment.

You need to read what van Zandt has to say about that! He calls it Hogwash! Doesn't happen! Here it is again,in case it escaped your perusal!

Van Zandt is saying that since they are not hired on a permanent basis they are fake, doesnt make sense. They are on call to officers and get called when police are stumped and need any lead they can get. How does Van Zandt explain that? Does Van Zandt explain any of the cold cases that were solved by psychics or does he just avoid talking about them.

What is it that makes a live body different from a cadaver? What is your awareness? What is consciousness? What gives one a personality? Where do our thoughts come from? I don't know anything about what there was before I came into existence or what there will be after that, but, the fact that there is a here, and that I'm in it, shows to me the possibility that that can happen again and may have happened before. Psychics, religionists, some scientists appear to be in the business of making money.

what does making money have to do with anything, engineers make money, everyone needs to in order to live, unless your parents left you a ton of it

It makes me a bit skeptical. If a psychic is for real why is he not already rolling in cash from his winnings at the race track or the lottery? Don't get me wrong though, being agnostic I am wide open to the possibility that some psychic phenomena may be real.

I don't think you have read much about psychics. They are not in control of what comes to them in the form of visions, intuition, and so on. These things simply come to them. Of-course, they are obviously in an 'open' psychic state themselves, unlike most other people.
as far as money goes, many live day to day, and even if they had a lot of money that doesnt mean they would flash it around, i met a woman who told me as i was leaving to go to a racetrack, car number 8 would win the third race, it did, she was right, i asked her why she didnt go to a race track and bet, she told me that would be a waste of her power.

This may well be a question with no answer. Why me? Why now? Dwelling on these questions can drive you crazy. I've come to the conclusion that I am here and now because before I was concieved I didn't exist to dwell on it, and after I die, I will dwell on it no more. 300 years ago somebody else probably pondered the same thing that we are pondering today. 1000 years ago he wasn't and today he isn't. It is what it is. Enjoy the life you have because it is all you will ever get and when you die it won't matter anymore.
Leo78: Do plants and animals have this soul that transcends too? Or is it just humans? I think people just convince themselves that we are a special lifeform and not just another part of the eco system that lives and dies as a natural course of things.
Mediums, psychics and religion all fall into the same category for me. Dubious. Designed to make people feel better about mortality.
Maybe i'm wrong... It would be nice if you were right though :)
Not sure about plants but I know for a fact that our pets are there without question, I've been there and came back!!!
EagleWoman: Pretty much nor does the air we breathe
Just because most people can't see, feel, touch, hear, smell, or "measure" a soul, it does not mean they don't exist.
Before telephones were invented, if you'd told anyone that one would be able to hear the voice of somebody who was thousands of miles away, as clear as if they were standing next to you, they would have said "madness!! that's impossible!!"
The existence of soul or spirit has absolutely nothing to do with religion.
The " Soul " ? What is this thing that only we have and no outher living creature has, or that makes us so special ? . . . . . Why do we only have it and it never dies ? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Hmmmm! . . . . . . . . . Intreaging question . . . . . .Personally if you get past the self flattery of being the darlings of some diety, Soul might just be the combination of our persona . We are more than arms and legs and a paycheck to our friends and family . The feelings we stir in those who know us could be the real definition of same . When we die we live on in the memory of those that loved us and so the theary of it never dieing might be somewhat true . We not only exsist in the real world but we have a place in the minds of those that know us . I do think that our thoughts, actions, and memories in the hearts and minds of our loved ones is our real soul .
Regarding using psychics to aid crime solving I think there is something to it but nothing to do with paranormal abilities. I think it's more a case of intelligence, life experience, knowledge of human nature, street smarts, the ability to see patterns, etc etc.
This is a true story.
My place of employment got robbed one night. By examining the crime scene I was able to tell the detectives: What kind of car the robber drove. What kind of wheels it had. What the guy weighed approx. What his probable age was. What his level of education was.
They had no way of knowing some of the things I told them but what I told them helped them in their arresting the guy within a day.
He used a lead hammer to bust out a panel from the overhead garage door which he got from the trunk of an MGB parked in the back lot. This told me he had to drive an MGB with wire wheels or he wouldn't know the hammer was there.
He took a $10 little transistor radio that was sitting right next to a $200 300mm telephoto lens which he left behind. This told me he was ignorant of the value of things ie young and/or uneducated. this was supported by the fact that he climbed over a 6 foot high fence and left a narrow shallow footprint in the soft earth. Our prep man found an envelope in the lot and knowing all our customers by name didn't recognize the name on it. It contained a cancellation notice from his insurance co. 6:30 the next morning the cops went to the address on the envelope and there was a black MGB with wire wheels parked in front of the house. They arrested the 17 YO owner of the car and when they opened the trunk it was filled with everything he took from my job including my Nikon Camera which he thought was worth about 50 bucks lol.

Psyche or soul, (psyche is the Greek word for soul) is simply the word for the mysterious process through which we experience the movement towards meaning. Jungian psychology states that the goal of life is not happiness but meaning, and as far as we know, ours is the only species which feels driven to find meaning. Whether soul is there or not is unimportant, soul is mystery, without the mystery there would be no soul.

The way you live your life matters because the people that lived it with you will have that memory after you die and that is how your life/soul goes on. IMO..
Merriweather: If we have no soul... then what is it that makes us unique ...not on the physical part... but stuff around.. how kind, caring, loving, helpful, all the emotions side is from the soul No????
So what happens to the soul of those with head injury, Alzheimer’s, severe down syndrome…etc? If we had a soul then perhaps blind people would be able to see? are souls blind without a body?
