I'm a hopeless case, i'm lucky to reverse the ute up straight.
Boban1: Well, I still got two like these parked in my garage ... been driving them for a few years and to be honest, if you don`t have enough space for a manevar ,driving it in reverse is quite a challange
Nice trailer, I still have to go back and forwards myself.
I would say that all people who can't back up a trailer probably never took the time to learn. There are a few techniques (tricks) to backing up a trailer which makes it a lot easier if you know what they are. If you've ever seen a professional truck driver back a tractor trailer up to a loading dock between 2 other trucks and do it in 1 shot, and do it at night, you gotta know there is way more to it than just dumb luck. Believe it or not, it's actually easier to back up an 18 wheeler than a car trailer. There's a reason why, which has to do with the distance from the axle of the tow vehicle and the trailer ball or 5th wheel of a tractor.

I can't back a trailer of any description - boat or car...
When I was just learning how to drive semi (tractor-trailer), the person teaching me, hooked up a pup to the back of the big trailer. (a pup is another trailer behind the first one... usually smaller)
I had to back them up between two other parked trucks and every time I had to go forward to straighten them out, he would punch me in the arm.
Believe me... someone *my* size, learns *really quick* how to do it right!
And as was mentioned above... you were probably talking about the loading docks at the Fort Erie/Buffalo crossing, right? (you had to actually get out and walk to the entrance to the docks to make sure the spot you were about to back into was, in fact, empty. It was pitch black inside)

Usually I can. As some mentioned there is a trick or a way you are supposed to do it. I learned by experience. I drove demo derby as a younger woman and I also loved to go out on the air boat. Both required me to know how to drive with a trailer. Sadly though one time I was going to a demo derby in a neighboring town and I thought I had hooked the trailer up and took a curve. Looking out my side car window after going around a sharp curve I seen my demo car going across someone's lawn. All was ok and I made it to the event but the guys did not let me live it down for years

Darn, do you have to let the air out of the trailer tires if you're parking them in the building behind the trailer in this picture.
Here's a good video of how to back up a tractor trailer. I have a simpler way of thinking about it than saying the trailer goes opposite to the steering wheel ie turning the wheel to the right makes the trailer go to the left, to me that is overly confusing. Rather, I like to think, if you want the trailer to go to the left, make the front of the tractor go to the left likewise if you want it to go to the right, make the front of the tractor go to the right. This way you're not forced to think in opposites. Another thing he doesn't mention. Rule 1, The left hand is "married" to the left mirror, right hand to right mirror. Rule 1a, Push to bend, Pull to straighten. Translation: If the trailer is in the left mirror, the left hand is in control, you would Push the wheel to bend the rig and Pull the wheel to straighten it. Same rule applies to the right mirror and hand.
