Maybe, but you know what they say...the older you get, the more like your parents you become (be that ever so frightening in my case laugh ). I think Mitt's a straight up guy. A man like him with all that family...all those children and grandchildren...he's looking for a legacy. He won't disappoint us, I don't think.

He certainly can't do any worse! laugh

My dad and his brother knew George Romney senior personally. George Romney Senior nick name was 'The Rock'. He was a fire breathing moderate REP. Much like Teddy Kennedy. Mitt is very mild compared to George Senior.

He would have had the REP nomination, except for making one of the worst statements known in American politics.....'I was brainwashed on supporting the Vet Nam war'. Romney was a moderate. He was running against Richard Nixon, a conservative. He had the lead in the polls till the statement. Nixon surrogates used it to paint him as unstable. We all know how mentally stable Richard Nixon was.

What Romney wanted to do at the time was to distance himself from the war. And in doing so, from Goldwater and Nixon that both supported the war. But just choose a horrible wording to do so. They clobbered him with it.

Nixon played hardball politics. Would not let the gaff slide. Newspapers supporting him, had it as headlines for a week.

My dad's brother knew Romney better than my father. His firm has alot of business with the State of Michigan that Romney was governor of. Pretty sure, the Romney's lived in the Grosse Point area of Detroit. Most of the auto executives lives there.

After Nixon won the election. He appointed Romney head of Housing and Urban Development. Romney had set the auto industry on it head with the cheap compact AMA Rambler. He understood production line manufacturing and how to shrink the size of autos. Even Nixon knew he as solid a executives and manager as it comes.

With Romney's support of the civil right, Nixon brought him onboard to develop modular and prefabbed housing for inner city areas. To do desegrated urban renewals around the country. But it was just a campaign ploy. Nixon kept him for doing many the projects. He left Nixon cabinet in the beginning of the second term in 1973. Romney's wife, Lenore ran for Michigan Senate seat.

At the time, many in the country considered the Romney's the REP version of the Kennedy's. This is a political family that goes way back. I was in high school at the time. I remember him on TV. He was as good a speaker as Goldwater. Had a strong voice. But made one bad gaff with it.

I always thought he was a better presidential candidate than Nixon. Seeing him go up against Ted Kennedy would have been a American classic contest. A solid moderate REP with a strong Civil rights record going against a liberal DEM with strong Civil rights record.
I could see the country fate and future on so much being decided in that contest.

Romney helped to write Michigan constitution in 62-63. One of my college profs was the Sect of House the did the actual writing of the state constitution then. So he was a Constitutionalist, make no mistake. He wanted it spelled out in black and white and no dancing around the margins.))

It looks like the White House will fail to meet its deadline on detailing Obama's proposed defense cuts.

Obama campaigns while Rome burns?

"The White House announced that it will not meet Friday's deadline to make public what plans it will put into place to deal with the massive defense cuts coming at the end of the year.

The announcement comes shortly after President Obama signed into law the Sequestration Transparency Act that requires him to submit a report to Congress detailing the impact of his 'sequester' on defense and non-defense programs – cuts that were triggered after the so-called Super Committee to come up with a debt deal last year."

I like Ann Romney. Each time I see her speak....that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one laugh....she gets better and better. Tonight she was talking without notes and without a teleprompter. Just talking from her heart. I think making Mitt our President and Ann the First Lady will bring back the days when we had class (the Reagans) in the white house.

The President pulled the wool over our eyes once before....I hope Romney is a quick thinker when he's in the debates and can respond to whatever the Prez throws at him.

Reagan was a actor who was responsible for leading a new breed of GOP to believe that deficits don’t matter. Failed policy !!! Starve the beast. This strategy has increased United States public debt rather than reduced spending.

First lady Michele Obama, while at the DNC, gave a speech. Of course it’s somewhat sad that Ann only has a couple of months left to hone her skills as a aspiring first lady. I’m sure when it comes time for concession both Mitt and Ann will be in our hearts.

All Obama has to be is real. Real trumps hypocracy everytime and the citizens of Ohio along with the rest of America surely can make this distinction. Without the Buckeye state, it becomes nearly impossible for Mitt as he would then have to run the table and that’s not going to happen.

“It will be comical when Ryan and Biden debate” Yes, I agree. I believe there will be only the one debate. Ryan will be schooled by the experienced Biden. A seasoned politician who like Obama will be real and remind America where we were, where we are today, and the path forward.

Pie in the sky promises and from President Obama's DNC Address;

1)'we will take the money saved from the wars, to pay down the debt, to build road, to improve schools........'

What new wars will the President involve us in? Any more Libya's out there? What continuing long term commitments to nation building Iraq and Afghanistan has he made? With his 'one war' military, is not the prospect for war in the world greater than lesser? How much more will he spend in Afghanistan before the withdrawal? How much is keeping 35,000 (near the same number deployed in South Korea) and rearming Iraq going to cost us?

2)"we will help small business and manufacturing to double their exports and will make 1m jobs"

The recent jobs report had lose in manufacturing jobs. Few business have the ability to double export sales in even 8 years, much less
than 4 years time. Average growth rate of a firm is from 10% to 20%
annually. He claims to increased 500,000 manufacturing jobs over the last 3 and 1/2 years. In reality, it has declined by 500,000 according the Division of Labor.

3) 'we created 4.5m million jobs"

4) 'I will cut 4t from the Nation's debt'

The President plan is to cut 4t over 10 years, 6 year of which he will not be President. So he is making a promise for the next Admin-istration. But how is he going to cut 4t while adding ACA and more benefits (think taxes here).

And this fact check report:

I think that they are caught between a rock and hard place on doing serious Defense cut in a election year with high unemployment. If they cut DoD spending, it increases the unemployment. If they keep high DoD spending, they cannot say they will have funds to cut the deficit.

So?

They will kick the can of the decision down the road untill after the election. If Obama loses, expect massive DoD budget proposal cuts to be made by the Administration during the transtition. This to set up a
future DEM position that Romney is over spending on DoD.

If Obama wins, I think somewhere there is a tipping point between DoD spending and National Security. Obama will try to bring DoD spending so close that tipping point for debt reduction, for benefit programs, for other government programs funding, that you can place a pepple on scale to shift it away from National Security.

Hillary Clinton is saying that that a trade pact with Russia in near completion. Just like China debt purchase, Obama is trying to inter mingle the economies to bring National Security with the two countries. But historically, this has never worked well.

Poland had solid economics and trade with WWII Germany. But German Panzers came across the border. Nation state war is made because of the mind set of a leader or leadership group, not because of the economics or trade. Though failing to pay debt is one of the causes to war. Historically, 'tribute' and 'debt' are often intermingled terms of nation states. A defeated nation state, paid tribute to the victor.
Over time it became debt as tensions eased and as more trade was done.
Still the loser was paying......

DEMs are chewing on Romney for not talking about the wars and US troops.

But given his father's comment on Vet Nam, I understand. He knows that the DEM know his father's statement.....and have black and white video of it. So does he want a DEM split screen commercial...one side his Dad making the gaff and the other him talking about Afghanistan?

Romney's been shrewd here. He says what he will do to the DoD. But is avoiding commenting on Iraq and Afghanistan.

I thought one piece in the DNC was a little below the belt on Romney.
That was the black white debate he had with Ted Kennedy for the Mass Senate race. Romney is a pup, a young man making one of his first political runs. Ted Kennedy is the Lion of Senate. This is Ted Kennedy elder leader of the Senate.

This is like apple sauce and apples. This is like orange juice and oranges. He is a young REP going against Ted Kennedy in the most DEM state in the Union. How he got talked into making the run, I don't know. But back then, just to say you were a REP in MASS took courage.

But the shown segments were a admitted disaster for Romney, at least the cut segments that the DNC decided to show. That is where the below belt comes in. They show 5 minutes of a 45 minute debate? Editting and cutting it?

I have a feeling that come the debates, after seeing this editing room hack job, the elder Romney is not going to have much sympathy for the young Mr. President and his economic woes.......

part 2

I am not going to say a Community Organizer should be opening plants in his town to make jobs. That is not his job. But that is the job of a State Senator. Barack Obama was a State Senator from 1997 to 2002

The unemployment rate of Chicago in 1997 was..............4.1%
The unemployment rate of IL in 1997 was...................5.2%
The unemployment rate of Chicago in 2002 was..............5.6%
The unemployment rate of IL in 2002 was...................6.3%

During Barack Obama term as State Senator representing the Chicago area
his unemployment rose by 1.5%.

In 1997, the country was hitting at........................4.9%
In 2002 the counties unemployment was......................5.5%

Only a .6% increase. Senator Obama saw a 2.5 times growth in unemployment in Chicago to the nation's growth from 1997 to 2002.

A nice article on President Obama being friendly with the Chinese Premier as US combined unemployment hits 25.5%. He is smiling and we ain't.

/get-employed/2012/09/u-s-job-market-continues-to-struggle-as-china-economy-maintains-its-workforce/unemployment. To 4.7%.

From my experience, big economic development and deal making is one of thees talents that is hard to acquire. Some are born with it. Others attempt to do all their lives, and never acquire the skills.

I think that when IL Senator Barack Hussien Obama met with a business person to discuss a Chicago/IL business project....it became a very tough sale to make for Chicago and IL.

In attempt to be fair. Learned from the DNC was that VP Biden had the responsibility for the $800 Tarp II spending and its results. Obama was to cover the international economic developments and economic summits. Obama choose Biden. So if Biden messed up the TARP II stimulus it is still Obama's.

Romney and Ryan are about to acquire the majority of the far left votes in America from Obama/Biden team. Estimated at 19% of the population, a major far left main activity is the enjoyment of medical weed.

Recently the Obama administration has been cracking down on medical weed distribution in CA and CO.

REP Paul Ryan....just said that the FED should keep its hands of State's Medical Weed....it is a state decision to have medical weed.grin

Medical weed is major issue to the far left. They have very upset with the Obama/Biden administration for not opening the doors of all America to medical weed. When Obama/Biden began to break up the medical weed distributers in CA and CO.....they went viral on the administration. The love between the OWS and the Obama/Biden team seem to be fading about that time as well.

Romney/Ryan to allow states to make their own decisions on medical weed can open the doors of many States to the far left's position.
My gosh what they are saying around college campuses on this turn of events, has to alter the Obama/Biden hold on the youth vote greatly.
As peered pressured youths with a twisted ankle or sprained back desire to have medical pot for relief.grin

31 a month. That is the rate that Americans are dieing in Afghanistan for Obama's war. If it continues to the 2014 withdrawal.....790 more will die in America longest war ever.

What is to be gained with their sacrifice?

A defeat of a paramilitary group called the Taliban? Ever see a paramilitary group sign a peace treaty? They just split into hardline groups that will never make peace and those that will make peace. They can make peace with the Karzia government.

More military victory over a headless alQeada that only has several 100 alQeada agents in Afghanistan?

The chance to chase down the Haggni network as terrorist? Haggni was just declared a terrorist group by the US State Department. Haggni is a financial arm of alQeada and the Taliban.

The continued nation building of the world's poorest country? Costing not only blood but vast treasury?

President Obama nor VP Biden address any of these questions in their DNC addresses. It was when "I bring them home and then we will have peace"....at the DNC. I say that is political homey grits. Fit for mass consumption but lacks any real substance.

Mitt Romney asked the question. Why not bring them home tomorrow? President Obama has 60 days and 3 debates to answer that question for the war weary country.

In Iraq, President Obama has given us a support deployment of 35,000 with undermined length in a hostile land (Iraq) pinned between Iran and Syria. He is going to give us a similar undetermined support deployment in Afghanistan (pinned between Iran and Pakistan). America is still going to have 70,000 to 80,000 in harms way. Still will have 16 military bases in the middle east countries.

I suspect this is pretty close to John McCain's suggestion to be a "100 year deployment" in the region and in Iraq. South Korea was a deployment of indefinite length after the Korean war truce. The US is still there 6 decades later. If not, President Obama is well on the way for such a 100 year deployment.

I think that the best chance to get these support deployments out of region and home....is the election of Romney and Ryan in 2012.

President Obama is forcing the future administration to make this long term commitment to the middle east and has taken the Congressional voice and vote from the decision. Future administrations will be hard pressed not to continue the deployments to unstable countries as middle east violence kicks up around the region.
