Wiki views on science PC
Among scientists, the correctness of procedure, result, and consequent scientific data derives from the factual truth of the matter, and from the soundness of the reasoning by which it can be deduced from observations, first principles, and quantifiable results. When the publication, teaching, and public funding of science is decided by peer committees, academic standards, and either an elected or an appointed board, the conservative allegation can arise that the acceptability of a scientific work was assessed politically. As such, in What is Political Correctness (1999), the physicist Jonathan I. Katz applies the term PC as censure, characterized by emotional discourse rather than by rational discourse. Conservative and reactionary groups who oppose certain generally accepted scientific views about evolution, second-hand tobacco smoke, AIDS, and other politically contentious scientific matters, said that PC liberal orthodoxy of academia is the reason why their perspectives of those matters fail to receive a fair public hearing; thus, in Lamarck's Signature: How Retrogenes are Changing Darwin's Natural Selection Paradigm (1999), Prof. Edward J. Steele said:
We now stand on the threshold of what could be an exciting new era of genetic research.... However, the ‘politically correct’ thought agendas of the neo–Darwinists of the 1990s are ideologically opposed to the idea of ‘Lamarckian Feedback’, just as the Church was opposed to the idea of evolution based on natural selection in the 1850s!
In The Politically Incorrect Guide to Science (2005), Tom Bethell said that mainstream science is dominated by politically-correct thinking. He argues that many scientists are motivated more by passionate emotion than by dispassionate reason.
In the book The Bell Curve Wars: Race, Intelligence, and the Future of America (1995), liberal opponents of the racially-determined-I.Q.-theory proposed in The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life (1994) argued against the conservative and reactionary propositions that genetic determinism explains the statistical intelligence-test-score differences between black people and white people, and thus explained and justified the socio-economic inequality inherent to U.S. society. Moreover, in that matter, the conservatives said that criticism of their racialist and mono-cultural perspectives is unfair, because it is based upon the political correctness derived from a liberal and humanist worldview.
Political Correctness is only for those who cant handle the real world and have to be coddled like a lil baby.. Grow up, and change that diaper to big person underwear!

Harsh.... that is harsh... If you work in an industry that promotes pc... and considering yourself lucky to be employed in the first place... you open you mind and observe, and follow the rules... which is what life is all about... following rules you like and those which you don't like... so that is when you are wearing your 'big person underwear' not when you decide to make your own rules...

"I think perhaps an understanding of the legal processes here would be far more valuable in terms of immigrants not falling foul of the law, as well as being protected by it."
"Political correctness" is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rapidly promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a Turd by the clean end.

Oh... and I wrote all that up above... and all I needed to do was find a turd...
MadBushpig: ... Definition: "the avoidance of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against" ...
... Definition 2 (and my favorite): "A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end" ...
... Definition 3: It is an article of passionate faith among 'politically correct' biologists and anthropologists that brain size has no connection with intelligence; that intelligence has nothing to do with genes; and that genes are probably nasty fascist things anyway ...

Unfortunately people who are prejudiced will find a way to demonstrate their hate in other ways, and they become quite adept at doing this without being caught, much in the same way as emotional blackmailers and control freaks. You cannot legislate how people view the world. You can, to a certain degree, make it inconvenient for them to commit hate crimes, but you cannot stop them from hating simply by having a law. (I just ended a long friendship with a woman in part because of her hatefulness and nastiness, and all the terms thereof, of certain people because of their race/culture. I believe this is the most pro-active thing we can do: refuse to have anything to do with crappy, ignorant people. It works better than any law can. Ostracize hate and ignorance.
NAKEDMUDPEOPLE: Political correctness is for all not only for a few.
Agreed. It has, however, become ridiculously WAY out of hand. It was not intended for people to not be able to have, or voice, opinions, {which is often the result}. People should not feel that they can't ask about another person's culture, etc...because someone MIGHT be offended by that. Another example: Commenting on a lady's attire or jewelry is complimentary, but so often used against someone, as not being "politically correct", even to the level of "harassment". What crap. Political Correctness is about not intentionally hurting and/or deliberately disenfranchising a group or individual within that group. It was never meant to stop people from simply having conversations or being, in their mind, polite or kind. And, if a person from another geographical or cultural area takes it upon themselves to read between lines that aren't even there, it is not the other person's responsibility that their paranoid decision to be negative is dictating a reaction.
