I don't think so...in fact I think the Internet has certainly helped broaden horizons and erase or minimize the borders, when it comes to dating. The issue however remains is to take advantage of it......and not too easy when taking into account financial and other logistics involved.
zoeguevara: Because of the internet there are lots of young men and women who didn't learn to socialize in person.
People want to sit back in a chair, stare at a computer screen and expect to find the love of their life. No more getting dressed to go out an impress someone. Now it's all done with emotes.
Personally.... I believe online dating sites are responsible for destroying a lot of relationships. In addition, my experience is that the majority of the profiles that exist fall into 3 categories...
1. Tire Kickers-just window shopping.
2. Trading Up-currently in a relationship & looking discreetly...
3. SCAMMERS
Its damned annoying to to weed through & results in many profiles being erased or abandoned.

I totally agree that its the individuals not the forum...did not mean to imply otherwise.
Just giving my opinion based on my history online. YMMV
I have tried various sites, same/same across the board. I do know that once April arrives...Im going on the road. I believe I will have better odds in person and increasing the number of actual persons that I meet will be much more beneficial than these sites have been.
Ohhh & re: individs vs. forum These sites make it easier for the individs of the 3 categories I mentioned....so even tho its people behind it....gotta say these sites have to assume some of the blame.

The internet is just another option to possibly form new friendships and if one is lucky, a relationship will develop is that's what they're looking for. And dating sites tend to be virtual candy stores where the options are plentiful. Personally, I still believe that the best way to meet people is in real life.

2intrigued: Hiya Unla I think it's a good thing when this kinda stuff happens because it's so telling of ones character....the instigator and the responder.
To clarify so there's no confusion, the instigator chooses to pick on or make fun of someone on a personal level and thinks it's funny. The responder is offended and chooses to respond without tact. A no win situation.
