galaxy15: Yes, I agree. But a problem remains - we should be developing an understanding, if not, an admission, that anthropomorphising a boundless and undefineable entity, which could be called - whatever you want! - is just another way of saying 'my god is better than your god - earlier than your god - mightier than your god'. This 'entity' resides in 'non-time', and therefore -any- definition is acceptable, whenever this definition is made?!
cheers chris
Oh no, you misunderstood I think. I’m not implying that the female creatrix is somehow more powerful or superior in any respect simply because it is older. You have to imagine first of all why the female would be associated with divinity at all and more than likely it’s the most obvious reason. Women are responsible for creating life and bringing it into the world. In fact all female animals are. What would have been the two most frightening and thought provoking mysteries expressed by early humans? More than likely birth and death. This is why the female would have this role for a long period of time preceding monotheism and the concept of a singular male deity. It’s not without social significance and explains a lot when you think about it in those terms.
galaxy15: Yeah - which Mary? Would a creator really care whether his envoys are immaculately conceived, or not? Why does this render the story of this event, either more mysterious or less mysterious? Someone called Mary, and someone called Joseph, did 'it', they had another son; the guy learned some pretty cool things (for his time), had an epiphany - whatever; this made him special enough to have been noticed by quite a few people - who wrote stories about him - Along the way, the stories became more and more embellished (we all do it! exaggerate - I mean), until a whole religion was written around him. Was he real?
If you look at the grain - you cannot see the beach; and if you look at the beach - you cannot see the sand!
I also would agree that it does not matter how Jesus was conceived. That was a mistake anyway. The word "almah" was used to describe Mary (his mother) in the bible. In Hebrew, the word "almah" is a descriptive term and means "young woman." This would have been an accurate depiction of Mary at the time that she became pregnant because she was probably a teenager.
For whatever reason, later Christian theologians mistranslated the word almah to mean "virgin." The Hebrew word for virgin is "bethulah" and never once was used in connection with Mary.

I don’t know everything. In school we read parts of the bible. Mainly I’m familiar with the OT. It was a course study in creation mythology of different peoples. Cultural anthropology. Thats the extent of it.
hopefloats: This is the most absurd poll I've seen yet!
what do you expect coming from who started it, we cant help people that are just bored out of their mind, and want something to talk about, or maybe its another one of her fairy-tales...
tell me something, if Jesus had a offspring, why isn't anything written about it, even after Jesus was killed, and why wasn't anything written about this so called relationship Jesus had with MM...everything you say, you cant prove!!! its just what you think happen, I believe it didn't happen, or it would throw what Christ is, "out the window" and it would make people like what you believe in "all powerful" and "righteous"..
And where does the world go from there, do we then believe in what you believe in, do we then start Churches all over the world from what you believe in... then what... you become a religion of your own... then what...
what's ya point here...
so we throw the bible and its teaching out the window, and into the fire, we burn down all the Church's, destroy all crosses, then what.... we walk around the world with no meaning...no hope... then what...

well isnt that great.. we change from one religion to another!!! just a different name!!!
so this whole forum is about, throw the bible out, and lets replace it with something else... sounds like someone jealous of what has exsited for thousands of years...
How did Mary become pregnant? ~~ One would surmise in some way or another. <grin>
The fact that we are still discussing the conception, birth and the man, Jesus Christ, gives great relevance to what his message means to those who have the ability to use the goodness of His words and thoughts after so many, many years. There are great numbers who perceived correctly and for the greater good. Then, there are those who chose otherwise. What can one say except it was their choice. For some, it just takes longer. The NT was a correction of OT ideas, thoughts and perceptions from Jesus' Mindset. One has to have the willingness to 'see' it correctly. Namaste' (keep trying)<smile>

Don't need to burn the Books, the Church was busy doing that through the centuries. If you believe that you're reading what actually happened,or didn't happen back then, you need to radically revise your thinking. Books have been omitted Stuff has been added, been rewritten to fit the needs of the ones in power. Study some History, instead the Shadow of it. Don't be like the People in Plato's Cave.

Its basically all dictates from either the Council of Nicea or the Council of Trent at which meetings, official policy and guidelines were decided by important churchmen. They decreed church laws which were then given from the pulpits as fact.
Those people were as powerful in their day as various politicians and world leaders are today. Personally, I find little meaning in their dictates, especially as modern methods are exposing things such as a virgin birth to be a scientific impossibility.
